It was great to visit Highfields State Secondary College and Toowoomba Christian College yesterday, taking our popular education programs to highschool kids in regional Queensland. These programs were delivered for free as part of The University of Queensland's Queensland Commitment and funded by the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry in the UQ Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Faculty. Earlier in 2026 the Museum also visited Rockhampton and Gladstone in regional Queensland with these programs and we're planning more visits to new locations in 2027 and beyond.

Excited to announce our line-up for UQ Block Party on Sunday 6 September!

🇬🇷 Join the ELLINIKES FONES multi-generational choir from 11am in the Michie forecourt for a performance of traditional songs from the Ionian Islands.
🏛 Visit the Museum's ΝΟΣΤΟΙ | Homecomings exhibition on level 2 of the Michie Building between 11am and 4pm to explore how these storied islands are remembered, experienced and passed on to future generations.
🧿 Drop in to Kytherian Australian artist Chrys Zantis' ΝΟΣΤΟΙ weaving workshop "Weaving Myths" and participate in the creation of a textile woven together as a community over the course of the day.
🏺Come along to a guided tour of the ΝΟΣΤΟΙ exhibition at 12:00pm, 1:00pm and 2:00pm (20 min duration)

Plus, explore the other amazing museums and collections on campus, participate in workshops, tours and demonstrations, take in some music at the Brisbane Festival stage, and much more.

If you're still yet to see the exhibition, the Museum is open weekdays across the school holidays and we have two special weekend openings coming up: Sunday 5 July, 10am – 2pm, and Sunday 2 August, 9am – 3pm for The University of Queensland Open Day.

Last week the Museum was pleased to take its popular school programs on the road to Central Queensland where we delivered free programs to almost 100 students across six schools in Rockhampton and Yeppoon as part of the The University of Queensland Queensland Commitment. Thanks to Rockhampton Regional Council, UQ Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and UQ School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry for their support of these programs.

Artist Chryz Zantis is in her element this weekend showing photographs she took on her ancestral island of Kythera in the 1970s and which are featured in our NOSTOI exhibition. Do get up to the Greek Cultural Committee of Brisbane display on level 2 of the Greek club if you have a chance during your Paniyiri Greek Festival visit for 2026. NOSTOI is on display at our St Lucia Gallery until later 2027 and is presented in partnership with The Kytherian Association of Queensland and the Ithakan Society of Queensland.

We're very pleased to be displaying photographs by Kytherian Australian artist Chrys Zantis at the Paniyiri Greek Festival cultural display, hosted by the Greek Cultural Committee of Brisbane. Chrys' photos are a prominent part of our current NOSTOI exhibition. Visit the display on level two of the Greek club all day tomorrow where you can also find lectures, the Paniyiri 50th anniversary display and kids craft activities!

It is an honour to be giving public lectures once again at the Brisbane Greek Festival. I am also delighted too that I can now speak openly about the Brisbane Olympics Exhibition. The Paniyiri is a great deal more than Greek food and dancing. It is also a cultural event including everything from cooking classes and historical displays to lectures about – for example – ancient Greek sport. Hoping to see one and all there this weekend.

Congratulations to Dr Charlotte Mann, former The RD Milns Antiquities Museum volunteer, engagement officer and assistant curator and UQ Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences graduate for her recent appointment as Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Ancient Numismatic Studies - ACANS. Charlotte got her first experience with ancient coins at the UQ Museum and we're so pleased to see her take up this role educating the next generation of Australian numismatists.
