On the night of 30-31 August 1942 at the Battle of Milne Bay, 3 large Japanese banzai charges were launched against number 3 airstrip. The attacks were repulsed by 25th and 61st Bns, 2/5th Fd Regt & American troops. The failure of these attacks is the turning point in the Battle. This is our model of the number 3 airstrip with troop locations. The airstrip was later named as Turnbull Field in honour of Squadron Leader Peter Turnbull.
Thanks to the 61st Battalion Association who donated the original model & Spencer Stoneman, a modelmaker who updated it with 3D topography & vegetation
