OPENING June 4 - an exhibition not to be missed!!!
"Alea iacta est" - a famous Latin phrase meaning "The die is cast". Attributed to Julius Caesar, it signifies that a momentous, irreversible decision has been made and there is no turning back.

In this solo exhibition, Andrew Walters seeks to capture and share the fleeting, fragile moments of beauty captured in the most unexpected times, to paint what cannot be seen.

Andrew is an autodidact artist from Redcliffe who creates work with bold colour choices and a hidden complexity of simplicity. With a keen eye for design and composition, Andrew’s work is deceptively illustrative. Andrew lets the paint sing for him which gives him a voice when right words escape him.

Begin Again (A Butterfly)
Katherine Clayton
Embroidery

Katherine's practice centres around making small scale objects. She is interested in the dilemma of the small in context and material, exploring where it sits within the spectacle of contemporary art and society. Using metaphors and symbolic meanings from nature, Katherine explores poetic narratives of identity, experience and emotion.

Begin Again (a butterfly) is an ongoing series of embroidered butterflies developed from quiet observations from my garden. Through the use of thread, the work records the ephemeral nature of the butterfly, creating a tension between transience and preservation.

See Katherine Clayton’s work during THREADS at et al gallery and Studio, Fifth Avenue, Sandgate.

Hidden Pool
Pippita Bennett
Plant dyed wool and thrifted cotton

Pippita Bennet uses site specific plants to dye fabric and thread. She begins each artwork by drawing with a needle and thread, following the lines of a branch or a rock or a felt sense, until she feels grounded and connected. Her process is slow, contemplative and immersive.

"Hidden Pool" - in the bushland near my childhood home, the pools were part of my real and imaginary childhood landscape. This was a happy creative place where my inner self felt nurtured. I’ve recently returned to this landscape during a period of grief and loss.

See Pippita Bennett’s work during THREADS at et al gallery and Studio, Fifth Avenue, Sandgate.

Fungus-eating Ladybird
Debra Kennedy
Embroidery

Debra came to sewing at a young age, around 6. Her father sewed, cross stitched and embroidered, so it made sense that she would love to sew. Following a trip to Taiwan/Japan, Debra discovered the art of thread painting and this is the work that she presents today. Scientific and magical.

See Debra Kennedy’s work during THREADS at et al gallery and Studio, Fifth Avenue, Sandgate.

Stitched Sunset 1
Brenda Lui
Watercolour and thread on cotton

Brenda Lui is an emerging mixed-media visual artist, milliner, and designer who embraces a feminine aesthetic, combining colour, texture, and movement to unite and evoke joy tinged with melancholy in the viewer. Exploring lived experiences through a mix of media, including textiles, is an essential element of Lui's arts practice.

This piece reflects the sunset sky scape of Bracken Ridge on a summer afternoon.

See Brenda Lui’s work during THREADS at et al gallery and Studio, Fifth Avenue, Sandgate.
