The Tenth Planet

The Tenth Planet Roughly twenty years ago, my Uncle Richard and I decided to have a go at creating a cartoon series very much like the Far Side by Gary Larson.

Granted, we were trying to fill the void that Gary had left with the announcement of his retirement from the genre, but it was something we had to try. So with my background in art and Richards background in the printing industry, we created The Tenth Planet! From there we self published a small collection of books, calendars and posters. For a few years we flogged our creations at the local maker

s markets, meeting lots of people and generally having a lot of fun doing it. But most things come to an end as did our run together and the enthusiasm we once had for it. Now after all these years, I have rediscovered the liking for drawing that I once had. So with the recent upgrade from paper and pencil to an iPad and Procreate, I am loving the process once again! Procreate matched with the iPad Pro and iPencil makes for a wonderful combination!!! So this time round I will be going alone with the "second orbit" of The Tenth Planet. I will be redrawing old creations as I find my drawing 'Zen thing' again, but I will also be creating new cartoons that you will hopefully find funny. In time I hope to add merchandise items to my website for all to enjoy. Thanks for reading this far and thanks for joining me on this new journey. Blasting off...

Here is a 28 year comparison. I've revamped an old calendar cover I did back in 1998. The original was created in pencil, then inked on a lightbox so it could then be coloured and tweeked in Photoshop. The new version was created entirely in Procreate.
I'm hoping to have this calendar completed by the next Brisbane Illustration Fair. I gotta say I'm pretty happy with it!

I originally drew this little devil back in 1998. I'm pretty chuffed to have given him an update.

A groundbreaking discovery has just shaken the world of astronomy. Planet Nine is real and it has finally been confirmed. This newly identified world is unlike anything we have seen in our solar system. Hidden far beyond Neptune, Planet Nine is a massive icy giant estimated to be five to ten times the mass of Earth. It is so distant that it takes between ten thousand to twenty thousand years to complete just one orbit around the Sun.

For nearly a decade, astronomers noticed strange movements in the Kuiper Belt, a region filled with icy rocks and debris beyond Neptune. These odd gravitational tugs hinted at a powerful and unseen object lurking in the darkness. First suggested by Caltech researchers in 2016, the theory of Planet Nine sparked years of research and debate. Now, with the help of cutting-edge telescopes, scientists have obtained direct visual proof of this long-hidden giant.

Planet Nine is believed to be an ice giant with a dense atmosphere and a rocky core. Its orbit is extremely stretched out, placing it tens of billions of kilometres from the Sun. On average, it sits twenty times farther away than Neptune, which is why it has remained undetected for so long.

Unlike Pluto, which was reclassified as a dwarf planet, Planet Nine ticks every box to be called a true planet. It is massive, orbits the Sun, and has gravitational control over its region. This makes it the first official addition to our solar system since Neptune was discovered in 1846.

Astronomers are now focused on understanding how this distant world formed, whether it has moons, and if more unknown planets are hiding in the deep reaches of space.
