Together, the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art offer compelling experiences that will move and surprise you. Our two galleries each have their own distinct personalities, but are united in their purpose to share exceptional art. Queensland Art Gallery was established in 1895 and moved to its current residence at South Bank in 1982. It was joined by the Gallery of Modern Art in 2006

and the galleries now house a globally significant collection of contemporary art from Australia, Asia and the Pacific. The experience of a visit starts when the striking architecture of our riverside galleries comes into view. Glimpses of Brisbane continue to anchor you to our subtropical city from inside each gallery, while ever-changing exhibitions, programs and events broaden your horizons. QAGOMA is also home to a Children’s Art Centre that presents interactive artworks for kids and families, a cinema that celebrates film from around the world, plus gallery shops with art, books and cultural curios to take home. Every visit is a conversation starter, and our outdoor cafes and award-winning restaurant offer places for stimulating discussion. So whatever your mood, there is always something to capture your interest. Curate your next outing by checking what’s on, or drop in to see what’s new.

🚀✨ Hidden gem alert!

In a future where time travel is routine, one man steals his twin brother's identity and accidentally joins a mission to help N***s change the outcome of World War II.

That's just the beginning of 'Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea' (1977) – a brilliantly chaotic blend of science fiction, slapstick comedy and political satire.

Packed with clever time-travel paradoxes and a uniquely Czech sense of absurdity, this overlooked classic is a joy from start to finish.

Guess the colour! 👀🌈

Bathed in blue, the entry wall and surrounds of ‘Olafur Eliasson: Presence’ at GOMA reflect Olafur’s Icelandic heritage and his ongoing exploration of light, perception and the environment.

This tranquil hue by Dulux Australia welcomes visitors into a multi-sensory experience shaped by colour, atmosphere and light.

Hint: its name evokes the atmosphere and luminosity of Iceland itself.

🎬 ‘The Third Part of the Night’ (1971) marked Andrzej Żuławski’s unforgettable feature debut.

Drawing from his father’s experiences in N**i-occupied Poland, Żuławski plunges us into a fugitive’s collapsing reality after witnessing his family’s murder.

A world of doppelgängers, shifting identities and a mysterious N**i vaccine lab unfolds in a delirious, nightmarish vision of war’s psychological chaos.

💥 Fast, furious and emotionally charged, this debut is as haunting as it is remarkable.

‘Everything comes to the archive’ 📚

Exploring Presence episode 3 offers a quiet and intimate window into the inner workings of Studio Olafur Eliasson.

Recorded softly at her desk so as not to disturb those nearby, this impromptu conversation between exhibition curator Geraldine Kirrihi Barlow and Biljana Joksimović-Große – who has worked in the studio archive since 2004 – traces the living memory held within images, drawings, systems and records accumulated over decades of practice.

Together they reflect on the evolution of the archive, how photographs were selected for the exhibition and look at the concept drawings behind new works created for Brisbane, including the exhibition’s title work ‘Presence’. ✨

'The mobile is my dream, and my peoples dream. To not become a climate refugee, to preserve and practice culture.'

Meet Zyon Nona, Woree State High School student and Creative Generation 2026 award winner.

'My culture is very important to me and is something that has been instilled in me since birth by my family. I make art to express my feelings and thoughts as a blak man and also for other blak fullas that can relate to my story.'

See Nona's 'Dreams & Nightmares' on display in ‘Creative Generation’ on Level 2, GOMA. Free entry.

Excellence in art runs in the family – Zyon's sister, Varni Nona, was also featured in Creative Generation 2022.
