Together, the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art offer compelling experiences that will move and surprise you. Our two galleries each have their own distinct personalities, but are united in their purpose to share exceptional art. Queensland Art Gallery was established in 1895 and moved to its current residence at South Bank in 1982. It was joined by the Gallery of Modern Art in 2006

and the galleries now house a globally significant collection of contemporary art from Australia, Asia and the Pacific. The experience of a visit starts when the striking architecture of our riverside galleries comes into view. Glimpses of Brisbane continue to anchor you to our subtropical city from inside each gallery, while ever-changing exhibitions, programs and events broaden your horizons. QAGOMA is also home to a Children’s Art Centre that presents interactive artworks for kids and families, a cinema that celebrates film from around the world, plus gallery shops with art, books and cultural curios to take home. Every visit is a conversation starter, and our outdoor cafes and award-winning restaurant offer places for stimulating discussion. So whatever your mood, there is always something to capture your interest. Curate your next outing by checking what’s on, or drop in to see what’s new.

🎬🎬 The ‘Double Take’ cinema program is doubling down this weekend with a superb selection of screenings!

Doppelgangers run riot in Andrzej Żuławski’ delirious psychosexual thriller 'Possession' 1981, while Charlie Chaplin’s story of mistaken identity in 'The Great Dictator' 1940 bounces onto the screen. Plus, soak up Philip Seymour Hoffman in the surreal ‘Synecdoche, New York’ 2008.

🎞️ Reality restaged = one of the greatest films ever made.

What begins as a case of mistaken identity becomes something far more profound in Abbas Kiarostami’s 'کلوزآپ ، نمای نزدیک (Close-Up)' – a groundbreaking masterpiece that blurs the line between documentary and fiction.

Recreating a real-life story with the people involved playing themselves, 'Close-Up' is a moving reflection on cinema, identity, ambition and the human need to be seen.

A landmark of Iranian cinema and one of the most influential films ever made.

Help us acquire these remarkable paintings by Kaylene Whiskey and Vincent Namatjira OAM, two celebrated artists working out of Iwantja Arts in Indulkana, in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands.

Vibrant, witty and unmistakably their own, these works reimagine iconic paintings from European art history through each artist’s distinctive visual language.

What does it mean to hold space for light? 🌈✨

Recorded in Brisbane just before the opening of ‘Presence’, this conversation between exhibition curator Geraldine Kirrihi Barlow and Olafur Eliasson captures a moment suspended between anticipation and arrival.

Listen as they trace the ideas, questions and energies that travelled between Berlin and Brisbane throughout the making of this extraordinary exhibition.

From Iceland and ‘unthought thoughts’ to light, vulnerability and presence, this episode explores what it means to feel deeply – and to create space for possibility. ✨

LET'S HEAR IT FOR PAM 👏👏👏

After more than four decades of volunteering, Pam Barnett has retired from guiding at the Gallery. Pam has been a Gallery volunteer since 1981, and this year she also celebrates her 90th birthday 🎂

Over the years, she has welcomed generations of visitors and generously shared her passion for art. What an extraordinary contribution and lasting impact she has made.

Were you one of the thousands of visitors who toured the Gallery with Pam over the past 40+ years? ✨ We'd love to hear from you.

We were delighted to welcome our friends from Shayher Group and their families to the Gallery to view 'Vipoo Srivilasa: Express Yourself’ at our Children’s Art Centre, GOMA.

This fun, interactive exhibition encourages visitors to consider the spectrum of human emotion with curiosity and an open mind. And of course, no visit to the Children's Art Centre is complete without a milkshake at the GOMA Bistro and a play on 'The Big Hose'!

Thank you to the Shayher Group for your ongoing support of QAGOMA – we can’t wait to see you again soon.
