You'd be living under a rock if you haven't noticed… 🌸 Brisbane's jacaranda season has arrived! 💜

Did you know, this was the first jacaranda tree grown in Australia? It became the inspiration for one of QAGOMA's most-loved paintings, R. Godfrey Rivers's 'Under the jacaranda' 1903.

Its seeds were brought back from Brazil by Australian wheat ships trading with South America, before Botanic Gardens Superintendent Walter Hill planted it in 1864.

ANNOUNCING 📣 💰 ✈️ Applications are now open for the 2027 Vida Lahey Memorial Travelling Scholarship, with an expanded award offering two recipients $50,000 each.

The scholarship supports young and emerging Australian artists and young Australian art historians to develop their practice or research through planned international and national travel that contributes to an understanding of Australian art.
