Somehow we all made it into the frame — and naturally, there’s a harold david combs painting in the background.

Welcome new Blue Mountains artist Pippita Bennett to Day Gallery:

“I begin my work by a fire, immersing textiles in plants dyes made from leaves, flowers and bark I collect. I then stitch, letting my eye follow the line of a branch or leaf. My landscapes form from small stitches and layers of fabric. I can work anywhere with my stitching on my lap and my materials around me – and so each landscape is also made up of conversation, bush walks and cups of tea. Each artwork is a record of place and time. My process is immersive, contemplative and slow.”

Take in some of the new Ken Knight artworks which are now all hanging in our front windows.
Plein air painting is one of my favourite styles of art to enjoy, there is so much spontaneity and movement captured, along side thick splodges of oil paint.

Just perfect

KEN KNIGHT — PLEIN-AIR PAINTER

Born in Sydney in 1956, Ken Knight is one of Australia’s celebrated landscape painters. Working predominantly en plein air, Knight captures not simply what he sees, but the atmosphere and sensation of being immersed in the Australian landscape.

Using thick oil paint, vibrant colour, energetic brushwork, palette knives and scraping techniques, he moves between naturalism and abstraction. Rather than faithfully reproducing a scene, Knight uses the landscape as a starting point for his imagination, reducing detail to create paintings with greater impact and emotional immediacy.

Following in the tradition of Australia’s great Impressionist landscape painters, Knight brings a distinctly contemporary energy to the Australian bush. His works are held in collections throughout Australia and internationally.
