I am super excited to announce the dates for the next drum making workshop. We are hoping again to run this down in the Megalong Valley so camping will be an option.

If you have ever considered making a drum this is an awesome opportunity to learn so much about yourself and come away with a beautiful representation of that experience.

As usual we have our super star Emily from to run the Djembe drum session and we will also have a Forest Bathing session.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out or you can just head straight to the website to book in.

On my way to work this morning, I really noticed the bounce in my new sneakers. It felt like I was working with the energy of each step instead of pushing against it. My old sneakers had lost their grip and cushioning after oh so many 10 km walks so every impact felt hard.

It struck me as a simple but powerful analogy for mental health. We all do the best we can with the tools we have at the time. Imagine how different things might be if we learned the right tools before we reached serious mental health struggles.

That’s why I admire the work 20Talk is doing. Through workshops, media campaigns & documentaries, they educate young people on how to care for their mental health early. Their workshops explore 12 dimensions of wellbeing, including self-control, exercise, sleep, nutrition, relationships, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, and more. I dream of a world where these skills are taught in age-appropriate ways from primary school onwards.

On 27th June at 4:00 am, I’ll begin 20 hours of silence in a warehouse with 350–400 others. While the surface level focus of the event is about switching off from technology, and reflecting, for me it’s deeply personal. We’ve lost people we love to su***de. We’ve seen children struggle. I have my own experience with anxiety and trichotillomania, and I know many people facing serious mental health challenges.

For me, the silence represents the unspoken space so many of us sit in - the shame, and quiet isolation when we’re not okay.

In Australia, nine people die by su***de every day. It’s the leading cause of death for those aged 18-44, more than twice the daily road toll.

Although I’ve reached my $1,000 minimum, I’d love to raise as much as possible so 20Talk can run more workshops. If you’re able, please consider donating to support our young people. You can follow the link below or the pictured QR code.

I just finished weaving this baby and she is up for grabs for the next person that donates $200 to my 20Talk fundraiser. There’ll be a few more pieces that i will weave and put up for grabs over the next month.

This cocoon is to remind us to allow others to be a safe space for us, instead of internalising and withdrawing. Whilst we are alone in our pain, we can have people sit alongside us, they can support us as we traverse the really hard stuff. A chrysalis is normally closed of course but the cocoons i make are often open to serve as a reminder to stay open to connection, even when we are in the weeds or mud. As always the cocoon has copper on it to represent healing, with copper on the inflorescence to symbolise healing through connection.

Send me a message or just head straight to my fundraising page to make your donation. She’ll be hanging at until she is claimed.

There is a quote attributed to Archbishop Desmond Tutu which says “There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in".

This feels like such an important thing to do, particularly right now. We live in a very reactive, bandaid society - we wait until there is a problem before we implement change or plans. The 20 Talk charity resonated with me so much because they run workshops and provide relatable information to our young people around mental health. They aren’t waiting for someone to be hospitalised before doing anything.

It also resonated with me because of the 20hours of silence. We definitely talk about mental health more than ever now but the silence is more about what happens for people. We shut down, internalise, and don’t communicate about what we are going through. So for me, i am sitting in silence for 20hours so others don’t have to.

About 20Talk
20Talk is a mental health charity that provides young adults aged 18-30 with the tools and skills to tackle lifes challenges. Based out of Perth, Western Australia founders Leighton and Lockie believe in helping young adults take ownership of their mental health journey.

We heard from hundreds of young adults that they felt there was a lot of great mental health information out there but it was out of touch, clunky and they didn’t know how to properly integrate all that information into their lives.

That’s why 20Talk’s operational team is run by young people for young people. All of 20Talk’s comprehensive media and training programs focus on generational relevance, technological scalability and best practice learning integration.

1350+ trained students
5 million+ reached online
2+ free training courses held per week

Please share and/or donate to show our youth that we don’t want su***de to be their no1 cause of death. 🙏

Spoke to the team today. I am excited to be 1 of 400 people sitting in silence for 20 hours on Sat 27th June to raise funds for youth mental health. Start time is 4am Sat morning and finishes midnight Sat night.

Su***de is the #1 cause of death for people 18-45, with 9 deaths a day, that’s 63 deaths a week, and that doesn’t even take into account attempts. We are in a mental health emergency and need to do something to help our youth not end up a statistic.

If you have ever struggled with your own mental health issues, held the hand of a child or friend who has or is struggling, you know how dark this can be. We can’t sit idly by and just blame our government and others for doing nothing if we ourselves do nothing. We are all responsible for doing what we can to help others. It’s part of being human.

If you have the ability to, please go to the link in my bio and sponsor my journey, i’m thinking of some awesome things i can do as incentives.

I’m Taking On The 20 Hours For 20Talk Challenge Which Will See Me Sitting In A 2×2 Metre Square In A Warehouse, Alongside 400 Other Participants, With No Talking And No Technology For 20 Hours. All I’ll Have Are The Essentials I Bring With Me: A Chair, Sleeping Mat, Journal, Water, And Food. No Distractions.

This challenge is a small glimpse into the isolation and struggle that someone with mental health challenges might feel every day. I know it will be tough - physically, mentally, and emotionally - but it’s a challenge I’m taking on to stand in solidarity with those navigating these experiences.

So why am I doing this?
We have all been touched in some way by the reality of mental health. It can be dark, lonely, and confronting.

Structurally, the statistics are still alarming:
- Su***de remains the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44.
- Only 2% of mental health funding goes towards prevention (Mental Health Commission 2022).

I’m completing the 20 Hours for 20Talk Challenge to help turn these statistics around. Your contribution goes towards 20Talk’s relatable prevention campaigns. They are a mental health charity that makes education cool and accessible, for young people by young people. Your generous donations go towards:

- Every $120 puts a young person through a one-day Mental Health Maintenance course
- Expanding 20Talk’s online resources and 60,000+ social media community
- Running large-scale interactive mental health events'

What is Mental Health Maintenance?
Mental Health Maintence (MHM) is a free, one-day workshop designed with industry experts to help individuals better understand and engage with different areas of their wellbeing, as well as learn effective ways to monitor them. MHM is designed to support people by equippig them with the knowledge and tools to maintai their mental wellbeing before reaching crisis point. By improving mental health literacy, removing harmful stigma, and encouraging professional help-seeking, this workshop hopes to prevent people from reaching crisis in the first place. To learn more, please visit www.20talk.com.au.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for donating to the cause. Hopefully this small challenge can help change someone’s life.

Final days of the Jenn Anderson Dragonfly Project partnered with and The Jenn Anderson Dragonfly Fund to encourage women in creativity.

This project has done so much more than encourage women to create. It has brought together community members, created a sense of community and a safe place for women to express themselves. It is so beautiful to know that the women are still gathering outside this project.
