This time it’s the soles of our shoes that we’re exploring at Jill Joubert’s studio. I have some fabulous Emily the Strange sneakers with the coolest soles. Let’s see where these two artworks go

I had the best fun working with Paul Birchall on these acetate photocopy transfers. We photocopied previous watercolours of mine onto acetate added some hand sanitiser to watercolour paper and transferred the images from the acetate to the paper. I then drew a grid over and made some enhancements with a black fine liner and then got a bit stuck. With Paul’s creative input we added stuck on photocopied numbers and an old stamp that he had. We then searched for a digital postal mark that we changed using AI so that it reflected Cape Town and transferred that stamp using the acetate technique across the whole image. I’m enchanted at how it came out and will do two more next week to make seven total images and prepare them for the end of year exhibition. I hope you enjoy them.

It’s not finished yet but I tested an option to stick the photocopied story onto the drawing. No way, I was advised to rather write the story of the beginning of the world according to an ancient Angolan labyrinth. The work is not finished yet but when complete I’ll post the progression and tell you the story. It’s a good one! I’m enjoying using the colour Japanese brush pens and pen and ink.

Event sold out on Quicket but organises say you are welcome to come before 6 pm or after 8 pm and view the artworks and enjoy a lovely meal at the lime tree Café in Bergvliet. It’s a once off pop up event which I hope happens again. Very dedicated organisers offering a different eating experience with delicious looking charcuterie filled cups

I’m developing this footprint image by adding in an African labyrinth depicting a story of how the world begins with g-d, the sun, the moon, humankind and a rooster! Watch this space for the next instalment. It’s great fun combining ideas of what we’re working on in Jill’s studio and going back to previous images and working into them with mixed media.

Mrs Bucket’s blooms. A relaxing morning with a dear friend trying out our watercolours on an unsuspecting plant still in its brown paper vase. Started with drawing unseen ie not looking at the paper to make for a more interesting composition and edginess. I’d forgotten how rewarding it is to work with watercolour.

Looking at those footprints again and turning them into something different. This time they’re walking all over lines head. The first image is the artwork as it is and the second is giving it a cleaned up digital white frame. Probably some more of the existing footprint art will be developed next week in Jill Joubert’s studio. It’s fun and the class if producing interesting, unique and diverse artwork filled with the personality of our different bodies

Looking back on the protea series in different media done in Jill Joubert’s studio last year. The blue ones sold at our end of year exhibition which was rather exciting. I really enjoyed these exercises.
