Amanda Katz Art After running my own practice, Amanda Katz Architects for 40 years, I returned to my love of creating art.

My favourite subject Lions Head mountain in Cape Town is inspired by Hokusai. I am creating my own obsessiv views of this much loved iconic landmark

Latest artworks completed today. Another perspex artwork with acrylic painting on the reverse (number 3 in the series of 6 planned) and another bisque fired tile painting. (2 so far). I'm still deciding whether to glaze the tiled artworks or leave them matt. Both depicting my muse Lions head mountain in Cape Town. Working on these series towards Paul Birchall's student exhibition at the end of November..watch this space.

Finished today. I added back the base drawing grid using bleach lines made with my ink dip pen and put in the grid numbers for fun. Also did some touch up details on the still life objects.

Work in progress. Will add the grid structure back into the artwork, and maybe add some collage work. Enjoyed the adding of the fabric behind the objects.

I bought some bisque fired unglazed tiles from Pudlo today. A box of a Box 75 of these. Here is my first attempt at a painting directly onto the tile, which has a lovely base colour. The size is 15 x 15 cm and there’ll be more of these to come.

The next stage in the drawing class with still life objects that relate to our heads. Unfinished. I’m adding quirky shadows to link the objects and will add colour and maybe cut out and collage. Valuable drawing exercises using a grid base. Now to decide what to focus on and how to pull this together.

I started a new reverse Perspex painting series focussing on Lionshead by night. I’ll post as I complete each one and then post a reel. Each time I try this technique I am learning and cultured by the outcome. Some mistakes turn out ok.

This watercolour evolved out of the line drawings of objects related to our faces. I’ll go back to the line drawings next week to work on my understanding of proportion and arrangement of still life. I miss watercolours so it was helpful to try them again.

So happy to be back at Jill Joubert’s Art studio for our next term. Back to basics and line drawings of items related to our faces. We’ve done hands and feet so we’re moving on. This time the focus is on single line drawing aiming to get proportions and relationships right for still life studies by starting with a horizon line to link the objects.

I am reposting the previous reel because the images got cut quite extensively and I’d like you to see the whole page. Apologies for a repeat. I might remove the first one.
