THK Gallery THK Gallery is a dynamic contemporary art gallery situated in the heart of Cape Town, South Africa.

THK Gallery was founded by German photographer and collector Frank Schรถnau in 2018, who was joined by auction veteran Linda Pyke in 2020. Working with established and emerging artists from Africa and the diaspora, as well as international artists, the gallery presents a diverse array of developing contemporary visual art forms. It contributes to the contemporary art discourse by showcasing, to a g

lobal audience, art that presents alternative perspectives and aesthetics to the status quo, in order to create new ways of seeing and thinking.

Namibian-German artist Nicola Brandt explores power, landscape, memory, and the lasting legacies of colonialism and apartheid. Her practice considers how history becomes embedded in the landscapes around us.

Reflecting on the seemingly innocent landscape images she grew up with, Brandt says:

โ€œThere was a deep ideology imprinted in a lot of those landscapes, of trying to create an aesthetic that would perhaps make European Namibians or South Africans feel that they had some sort of claim to these landscapes.โ€

Responding to HEAT Festivalโ€™s theme, Ctrl + Z, the exhibition considers the impossibility of undoing history, tracing the ways memory, inheritance and place continue to shape the present.
