THK Gallery THK Gallery is a dynamic contemporary art gallery situated in the heart of Cape Town, South Africa.

THK Gallery was founded by German photographer and collector Frank Schรถnau in 2018, who was joined by auction veteran Linda Pyke in 2020. Working with established and emerging artists from Africa and the diaspora, as well as international artists, the gallery presents a diverse array of developing contemporary visual art forms. It contributes to the contemporary art discourse by showcasing, to a g

lobal audience, art that presents alternative perspectives and aesthetics to the status quo, in order to create new ways of seeing and thinking.

For this edition of THK Talks, we sat down with Durban-based artist and Durban University of Technology alumna Karla Nixon- pictured here with her studio companion, Umber.

Known for her intricate paper-based works that explore memory, transience, and the traces we leave behind, Nixon has exhibited both locally and internationally, including at the Shanghai Paper Art Biennale, the Rupert Museum, and the Spier Light Art Festival.

Part studio, part imagined world, Philip Emdeโ€™s space is inhabited by a cast of soft observers- Jocko, Lora, Coco and their companions- gathering quietly among paintings, objects and fragments of daily life. Sometimes they watch, sometimes they play, and sometimes they become part of the work itself.
With . ๐˜™๐˜Œ .. ๐˜๐˜–๐˜”๐˜Œ๐˜‹ ..., . Emdiland .. shifts into the gallery. The boundaries between studio, artwork and companion soften, inviting us into a world where everything seems gently alive- and always looking back.
