On July 4, 1936, Richard Nixon, attended his first Major League Baseball game at Griffith Stadium in DC. The 23-year-old RN watched the New York Yankees take on the Washington Senators. Rookie Joe DiMaggio hit a homerun and first baseman Lou Gherig drove in a run.

While arbitrating the 1985 Umpire labor dispute, RN recorded memories of that game.

Statement by Tricia Nixon Cox and Julie Nixon Eisenhower on the passing of Secretary Donald Rumsfeld:

YORBA LINDA - We are deeply sorry to learn of the passing of Donald Rumsfeld. Throughout his long and productive life, Don Rumsfeld built an extraordinary legacy of service to our country stretching across more than half a century.

Richard Nixon was the first president to call on Don Rumsfeld to serve in a senior leadership position in the executive branch. At President Nixon’s request, Don resigned his seat in the House of Representatives to serve as director of the White House Office of Economic Opportunity. He would go on to serve in three additional senior posts in the Nixon Administration.

Over the course of his career, Presidents Ford, Reagan, and George W. Bush also would ask Don to join their administrations. As President Nixon did, they relied on Donald Rumsfeld for his wise counsel and resolute leadership.

On behalf of the Nixon Library and Foundation, we offer our deepest condolences to Don’s wonderful wife of 66 years, Joyce, and to the entire Rumsfeld family.

His Excellency Koji Tomita, Japanese Ambassador to the United States, spoke at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum on June 17, 2021, to mark the 50th anniversary of the far-reaching and impactful 1971 Reversion of Okinawa Agreement, which was negotiated, signed and implemented by the Nixon administration.

“President Nixon and Prime Minister Satō each saw what needed to be done for the future and the security of our relationship and they did it,” Ambassador Tomita said.

“The tremendous efforts made by those involved in the reversion of Okinawa have led to the strong Japan-U.S. alliance that exists today,” the Ambassador added.

The Richard Nixon Foundation will salute hundreds of frontline workers and first responders with an outdoor Rose Garden Party tomorrow at the Nixon Library.

President and Mrs. Nixon’s eldest daughter Tricia Nixon Cox and her husband Edward Cox will travel from New York City for the occasion and will personally greet and thank more than 300 expected guests.

The day marks the 50th anniversary of the wedding of Tricia Nixon to Edward F. Cox in the White House Rose Garden, the first and only outdoor White House wedding ceremony.

The Rose Garden Party symbolically ends the Richard Nixon Foundation's 15-month Conquering Covid campaign to benefit the Southern California community, which has resulted in 41 blood drives, regular COVID-19 antibody testing for the public, four food drives, two vaccination clinics, and the acquisition and distribution of hundreds of thousands of face masks to Orange County’s small businesses, public and private schools, frontline COVID-19 responders, and veterans groups.

As part of the visit, the couple will open a new special exhibit at the Nixon Library titled, "The Day Indeed Was Splendid: The Wedding of Tricia Nixon and Edward Cox."

“Peace is the real and right memorial for those who have died in war. They wanted and they deserve a world in which their brothers and sisters and their children and grandchildren will never have to be called upon, as they were, to fight for peace. Let that be the memorial we seek to build for them, and let us work together to build it in the months and years ahead.” -Richard Nixon

The Nixon Library reopened yesterday with a red white and blue ceremony to welcome its first museum visitors since March of 2020.

Eight First Responders and Frontline Workers ---two nurses, two firefighters, two Sheriff's deputies and two school principals--- joined four "Presidents of the United States" to cut the ribbon to officially reopen the museum.

Trumpeters from OC Music & Dance led the festivities with All-American Fanfare including the Star-Spangled Banner and Hail to the Chief.

Hours are Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-3pm.

05/15/2021

For the first time in more than a year, visitors will be able to experience the Nixon Library’s presidential museum galleries beginning Wednesday, May 19, 2021.

The museum, which was completely reimagined and renovated in 2016, houses more than 70 highly-visual exhibits that take visitors through the life and career of America’s 37th President, including a full-sized recreation of President Nixon’s Oval Office and an original 12-foot high section of the Berlin Wall.

This will mark the first time Library visitors will tour the museum since the Nixon Library closed to the public in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Library will host a reopening ceremony on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 10:00 am. Members of the public are invited to attend.

In addition to the museum, the special exhibition The Presidents Club —briefly open for a few weeks last Fall— will reopen on May 19, 2021. This originally-curated, storyteller exhibition chronicles the fascinating friendships and rivalries between some of history’s most well-known U.S. Presidents, from our Founding Fathers to the present day.

Two more special exhibits will open on May 19, 2021:

The President and The Planet, an outdoor exhibit throughout the campus that explores the consequential environmental initiatives of the Nixon administration.

Evening the Odds: Women Leading the Way, a permanent display on the legacy of the Nixon administration’s efforts to advance women in athletics, politics, and business.

The President's iconic farmhouse birthplace reopens as well. The Pat Nixon Rose Gardens continue to burst with color, filled with blooming, picturesque annuals, perennials and more. The Gardens —and the flower-ringed Memorial Site of President and Mrs. Nixon— are open now and included with regular admission.

The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum will be open every Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Nixon Library's museum galleries and federal space will reopen in accordance with federal COVID-19 guidelines, while requirements in the privately-managed Nixon Foundation space will align with guidance from the State of California and the County of Orange.

Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance of their visit by going to nixonfoundation.org.

Winston Churchill became Prime Minister 81 years ago today.

"I first met Churchill in June 1954," Richard Nixon wrote in his 1982 bestseller Leaders.

"When I headed the welcoming party that greeted him on his arrival in Washington for his official visit as Prime Minister. I still remember the eager anticipation, even the excitement, that I felt that day as I waited for his plane to come into view. I had already traveled extensively abroad. I had met many national and international leaders and many famous celebrities. But none matched Churchill as a larger-than-life legend."

The Richard Nixon Foundation

The mission of The Richard Nixon Foundation was first articulated by President Nixon:

To further this mission, the Richard Nixon Foundation in association with the National Archives and Records Administration provides financial support to collect, preserve, and make available to the public and for scholars the documents, recordings, and other materials that illuminate the life and times, and the historic legacy of Richard Nixon.

The Richard Nixon Foundation actively encourages and supports scholarship and sponsors programs that engage the public with the Library, promotes educational programs and exhibits, and fosters discussion and debate relating to the legacy of America’s thirty-seventh President.
