Today was a big day for our museums and Wythe County! The museum staff attended the Sunday opening for “America’s Tapestry: 13 Colonies, 13 Stories, 1 Nation” exhibit at the Muscarelle Museum of Art, Wiliam & Mary, in Williamsburg, VA. We should all be proud of the Virginia tapestry that showcases the lead mines of Wythe County! The exhibit will be at the Muscarelle through September 6. For more info go to

A little rain didn’t stop the water balloon battle between the Tories and the Patriots on the last day of the 2026 History Camp. The participants learned about the importance of honeybees yesterday, made a beeswax candle and planted their own small greenhouse. Today was a look back at local history of the Revolutionary War with re-enactors and making their own candle box. The free camp is co-sponsored by the Wythe County Historical Society and the Town of Wytheville Department of Museums and held at The Homestead in Wytheville.
