Ohio Railway Museum Located in Worthington, OH, the Ohio Railway Museum is the 4th oldest railway museum in the country.

What a fantastic opening day for this year's Pumpkin Patch Express! 🎃

So many of you came out to ride with us, and we had a blast. Our littlest guests showed up in the cutest costumes, and their excitement filled the whole museum.

That's the kind of thank-you our volunteers do this for: happy, smiling kiddos enjoying a train ride, trick-or-treating, and picking out a great big pumpkin.

Looking east at High St, with Columbus Union Station in the background and High St Tower on the right. The date is unknown, but we can certainly make an educated guess.

Shark noses, a K4, and what appear to be a couple of Fairbanks-Morse switchers all sharing the scene. These photos most likely date to the early 1950s. Steam was giving way to diesel, but for a few brief years you could catch both side by side.

What a time to be a railfan.

Our volunteers have been hard at work getting everything ready for the Pumpkin Patch Express!

We are ready for the pumpkins, the straw is down! This year, our crew also built a small hay maze just for our littlest visitors. We think it's going to be a big hit with the costumed crowd.

While they were at it, the team gave the old Pennsylvania Railroad Freight Depot a fresh touch of paint. She was looking a little drab, and now she'll make a much more picturesque backdrop for the day.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who gave their time and energy to make this happen. Events like this simply wouldn't be possible without you.

48 miles on just 2 gallons of gas. Not bad for a day on the rails!

Our speeder "Blaze" recently joined the pack at the Southern Michigan Railroad, and what a day it was.

We kicked things off at 8am on a bright, brisk morning, and after a safety briefing and plenty of friendly chatter, the group rolled out around 9am. We ran 12 miles down the line all the way to end of track, with stories shared along the way of Cub Scouts camping at the end of the line, kept up all night by passing trains. Blaze had a brief overheat while running in reverse, but once that was sorted out, it ran without a hitch for the rest of the day. We stopped in Tecumseh for lunch with the Kalamazoo speeder gang, made one last run down and back, and wrapped up the day around 5pm.

A huge thank you to the Southern Michigan Railroad crew for their hospitality and "safety first" spirit. We've already been invited back next fall, or maybe even this spring, and we can't wait!

Just a quick picture from the pumpkin patch! We went to see a man about some pumpkins. 🎃

The Pumpkin Patch Express arrives this coming weekend, and tickets are already selling. Before the big day, we had to stop by and check on our pumpkins. We wanted to make sure every one of them is ready for the journey to the museum.

We can't wait to welcome our costumed little guests aboard! Here's what's waiting for them:

Yesterday our team rescued several old street light fixtures that were headed for the landfill. As the City of Columbus clears the way for a new soccer facility, these fixtures were destined for the scrap heap.

Here's the best part. These lights match a couple that were installed here at the museum in our early days. When we heard about them, we reached out, and with the City's blessing we were able to save and remove them before they were gone for good.

Now the real work begins. Our volunteers will clean them up, restore them, and install them on our campus, where they'll light the way for guests for years to come. Future evening events will glow with that classic warm light from the past.

A big thank you to the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department for helping us give these fixtures a second life. Not everything needs to be brand new. Sometimes the best move is spotting good material that still has plenty of life left in it and rescuing it before it disappears for good. That's exactly what we did, and soon enough, these lights will be back in service where they belong.

The steam is up, and history is about to turn a page.

Here we catch both Train No. 233 and Train No. 238 on their very last runs. As the B&O rapidly dieselized its network through the mid-1950s, passenger demand quietly slipped away. The regional steam-powered passenger service tied to these train numbers was discontinued entirely by July 1956.

Leading both trains is one of the most iconic locomotives the B&O ever put on the rails. You can clearly make out No. 5305 in one of the photos, a 4-6-2 Presidential Class P-7c named "President Jackson." We could not make out the second number, but it may well be the same engine on the return service.

There is something bittersweet about a final run. The smell of coal smoke, the rhythm of the rods, the long whistle echoing through Columbus. All of it fading into memory as a new age of diesel took over.

All aboard for fall's favorite family tradition!

Pumpkin Patch Express is back at the Ohio Railway Museum, and there's a free pumpkin waiting for every child ages 2 to 12! Have a little one under 2? No problem. Just add on a pumpkin so they don't miss out!

Climb aboard for a 45-minute round-trip ride to the pumpkin patch, where every child ages 2 to 13 picks out their very own pumpkin with their ticket. Then keep the fun rolling all day back at the museum!

Next Saturday, September 26, they're running their "Return to The Big Four" excursion - a scenic 10-hour journey from Cincinnati, OH to Greensburg, IN and back, following 120 miles of the historic Big Four Railroad route.

Here are a few shots from Wednesday's work day, with the MOW team hard at it on the siding. Their progress has been incredible to watch.

We are getting close to tying into the old lead holding No. 21 and No. 501. It won't be much longer before we can see how well they roll and what it will take to bring them back to life.

The highlight of the evening was throwing the switch and setting a couple of our speeders on the new track. That was a moment of real satisfaction for the whole team. The MOW crew keeps pushing hard, even through the heat and the rain. Their dedication never quits.

Come out this Saturday and see the progress for yourself! There is so much happening at the museum right now, with even more on the way. We truly appreciate your continued support, so stay tuned and come join us!
