Korean Cultural Center of Chicago

The mission of KCCoC is to promote and organize Korean cultural, educational, arts, and social events for the public.

The KCCoC is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that was established in 2005 by the Korean American community in the greater Chicago area. The Korean Cultural Center has a museum, an art gallery, a library, an event hall, a multi-purpose room, and many classrooms. Through diverse educational programs, sponsored events, and cultural activities at the new facility, KCCoC seeks to promote Korea's rich 5,000-year history as well as the uniquely vibrant Korean-American experience. It aims to establish a forum to celebrate and improve the understanding of Korean culture and heritage. Our efforts in creating the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago extends to all that are willing to participate and support us directly through Facebook. It is our belief that any cultural center needs the support of the public and we are eagerly asking any and all members of our Facebook Group to spread the word! This grass-roots style of participation will not go unnoticed to the powers at be (those that have the ultimate say in whether or not a Korean Cultural Center is a good idea) if we can grow our Facebook group membership. MOU with Jeonbuk State Office of Education

Korean Cultural Center of Chicago and Jeonbuk State Office of Education Sign MOU to Strengthen International Exchange, Korean Language, and Cultural Education
The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago and the Jeonbuk State Office of Education in South Korea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 3 to promote educational and cultural exchanges. Through this agreement, the two organizations will work together to expand educational and cultural exchange programs centered on the Korean language and culture, and to develop a variety of exchange opportunities that enhance the global competencies of students in Jeonbuk.

During their visit, representatives of the Jeonbuk State Office of Education toured the Children’s Museum at the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago, which is scheduled to open on the 17th, and donated 50 Korean Storybooks selected by the Jeonbuk State Office of Education. Among the donated books were Korean and English editions of four traditional Korean folktales featured in the Children’s Museum’s storybook puppet theater: Heungbu and Nolbu, The Grateful Magpie, The Good Brothers, and Tiger Brother. These books will help local children become more familiar with the Korean language and culture through engaging stories and cultural experiences.

시카고한인문화원과 전북교육청과 업무협약, 국제교류수업·한국어·문화교육 협력 강화

시카고한인문화원과 대한민국 전북교육청이 10월 3일에 교육·문화 교류 활성화를 위한 업무협약을 체결했다. 양 기관은 협약을 통해 한국어와 한국문화에 기반한 교육·문화 교류를 확대하고 전북 학생들의 국제적 역량을 높일 수 있는 다양한 교류 프로그램을 발굴하는 데 협력하기로 했다.

특히 전북교육청은 오는 17일 개관 예정인 시카고한인문화원 어린이박물관을 둘러보고 전북교육청이 선정한 어린이 동화 50권을 기증했다. 이중에는 어린이 박물관 동화인형극 코너의 “흥부놀부”, “은혜갚은 까치”, “사이좋은 형제”, “호랑이 형님” 등 4가지 동화의 한글과 영문본 동화책이 포함되어 있어, 이를 통해 현지 어린이들이 한국어와 한국문화를 보다 친숙하게 접할 수 있도록 지원했다.

First Korean Children’s Museum in the Americas Opens in Chicago Area!

-Developed in partnership with Kohl Children’s Museum
-Introducing Korean culture through the universal values of gratitude and respect
-Grand Opening Ceremony & Celebration Concert on October 17

The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCoC) will host the Grand Opening Ceremony of the KCCoC Children’s Museum, the first Korean children’s museum in the Americas, on Saturday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m.

The celebration will be open to the entire community, welcoming not only Korean Americans but everyone who loves and is interested in Korean culture. The ceremony will feature an introduction to the vision behind the Children’s Museum, and an overview of its key spaces and programs. Guests will also have the opportunity to celebrate the beginning of this new cultural and educational space together.

Through play and hands-on experiences, the KCCoC Children’s Museum offers children a natural and engaging way to discover Korean culture and traditions while creating connections across generations and cultures. We warmly invite the community to join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter.

BISCO Young Artist Series Inaugural Concert

The BISCO Young Artist Series is a new initiative of the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCoC) dedicated to showcasing exceptional emerging musicians and connecting young artists with the community through music. The Inaugural Concert, featuring 15-year-old cellist Cameron Renshaw and pianist Tina Renshaw in an all-Tchaikovsky program, celebrates the Grand Opening of the KCCoC Children’s Museum.

Presented as CROSSROADS | Young Artists, the series creates a new stage for the next generation of artists while connecting cultures, generations, and communities through music. We warmly invite the community to join us for this special inaugural concert as we celebrate young artistry, a new beginning for BISCO Hall, and the Grand Opening of the KCCoC Children’s Museum. We look forward to welcoming audiences to the first of many inspiring CROSSROADS | Young Artists performances.

"Gwanno Mask Drama" Performance & Special Lecture

On Saturday, September 19, experience "Gwanno" at BISCO Hall- Korea’s only traditional nonverbal mask drama and part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity🎭

Meaning “government slaves,” Gwanno originated in Gangneung and carries more than 1,000 years of tradition and history through expressive masks, dance, and humor.

After the performance, stay for a special lecture, “Women in Korean History,” by acclaimed author Byeol-ah Kim, the first recipient of Korea’s World Literature Award for her novel Mishil.

💰 Illinois artists: $10,000 in creative funding is available!

FY27 Creative Accelerator Fund (CAF) Guidelines Are Now Available!

The Illinois Arts Council’s (IAC) Creative Accelerator Fund (CAF) provides crucial support to artists with a goal of strengthening the creative workforce that composes a significant portion of Illinois’ economic activity.
CAF recognizes and supports the vital role that artists play as builders and innovators in their communities. By investing in their practice and professional growth, the fund not only enriches the lives of artists but also encourages broader community engagement and investment, leading to a vibrant cultural landscape and fostering connections among residents.

This is a $10,000 taxable award. All applications must be submitted via the applicant's IAC Salesforce account. The deadline to apply will be in October 2026.

Applications will be available in IAC's Salesforce grant portal beginning Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
