The National Vietnam War Museum was founded to become the national venue providing an atmosphere of learning about the Vietnam War era for people of all ages, nationalities and political points of view. The museum will tell the unbiased story of the more than 5 million servicemen and servicewomen who served in Vietnam, the civilian contractors who supported their efforts, the Vietnamese people, their culture and history, and those on the home front, both supporters and protesters of the war.

Vietnam Veteran Stories 🇺🇸
Kenneth P. Jr. (1947–2023) of Marion, Ohio, was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. He served as an infantry “grunt” in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division, including combat operations at Loc Ninh, Shenandoah II, and Bo Duc, and later during the Tet Offensive. He chose to remain with his unit as a squad leader and radio operator, earning the rank of E-5 and receiving four Bronze Stars along with the Combat Infantry Badge.
After returning home, Ken built a life with his wife, two daughters, and grandchildren. In later years, he suffered serious health complications believed to be linked to Agent Orange exposure, including cancer, diabetes, strokes, and heart disease. Despite it all, he remained devoted to his family and lived by the motto: “Get up and keep on fighting or lay down and die.”

He passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023, after celebrating 56 years of marriage. We extend our deepest thanks to his wife and family for allowing us to share his story and honor his service.
