A Message of Gratitude to Our Fantastic Community!

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our patrons who supported our Gifts to Go Holiday Bazaar fundraiser. The event was a tremendous success, all made possible by your generous support. We also want to express our appreciation to the businesses and local residents who donated merchandise and funds to help fill the space with beautiful gifts. Thank you to everyone who came out to purchase gifts. A special thank you goes to the volunteers who dedicated countless hours to bring this event to life.

We wish you and your families all the hope, joy, and splendor the holiday season offers!

Thank you from all of us at the Museum at the Friends Home!

The above is a reproduction of an interesting portrait in oils of Charles Dickens, the work of Miss Mary Spencer, and is an unusually fine piece of portraiture. She saw Dickens on his memorable visit here, and made the portralt from a photograph and from her memory of him.
, Besides the likeness of expression, the ruddy face of the Englishman, the red vest which he affecled so much, and the black velvet coat, are all cleverly reproduced. The painting is now on view at "The Literary Shop" (Smith-Shaw Company.), Fourth street. Miss Spencer is a pupll of C. T Webber, the well-known art instructor.

26. 195 South Third - Holloway Tavern: Built by
David Holloway circa 1805, this is one of the earliest buildings in Waynesville. It was the first tavern in town and was on the
L route for stage coaches on the Accommodation Line. By 1814,
Quaker Joel Wright purchased the structure. Henry Clay stayed here in 1825, as did Charles Dickens in 1842. Other prominent
owners were temperance advocate Paulina Butterworth and Findley and Laura Brown.
