💙💙 Congressman John Lewis, with ICOM-US Chair, Lonnie Bunch and others 💙💙

“Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. #goodtrouble” - John Lewis in a 2018 tweet

Posted @withregram • @aamersofficial "There were some who said it couldn't happen, who said, 'You can't do it,' but we did." - Rep. John Lewis at the dedication of @nmaahc in 2016, a museum for which he advocated for 28 years. We recognized Rep. Lewis in 2013 as a champion for museums with a Congressional Award during Museums Advocacy Day.

We mourn the enormous loss of a great civil rights hero and champion for museums.

A message from the Board of ICOM Sweden

Information from ICOM Sweden in this difficult time within ICOM international

ICOM Sweden has previously informed that Suay Aksoy, ICOM's international president, has resigned, at the same time as additional representatives with key functions within ICOM's governance have resigned.

Yesterday, July 13th, Suay Aksoy’s resignation letter was made public for ICOM members to read, following the request of ICOM's national and international committees, with Aksoys approval https://bit.ly/2C8xBVB.

The resignation letter of Hilda Abreu de Uttermohlen, former member of the ICOM Executive Board, was published yesterday as well https://bit.ly/32dvHh6.

On July 12th, representatives from the standing committee MDPP2, whom resigned from their posts, published a document with reflections on their mission and preconditions regarding the work towards a new museum definition during the years 2016–2020. The document provides insights into the working processes and challenges of MDPP2, as well as perspectives on a number of issues that the board of ICOM Sweden, and our members, have had since some time back https://bit.ly/2ZoIMlW.

All representatives who have resigned from leading positions within ICOM point at a lack of transparency, undermining of work, and questionable decision flows within ICOM.

Yesterday, July 13th, the ICOM Executive Board commented on the need of evaluation of internal working methods and decision-making processes within ICOM's governance. In this regard, the Executive Board has taken the following steps, among others:

- Summary and the decisions of each meeting of the Executive Board will be made available under the Member Space.
- An internal audit of the working methods of the Executive Board has been launched to identify shortcomings and implement improvements. The first results will be shared with the members during the General Assembly on 24 July.
- An effective digital communication channel will be explored to increase communication, strengthen participation and democracy between management, members, committees, regional alliances and associated organizations.

The board of ICOM Sweden follows continuously what is happening and updates our members with new information, and continues to safeguard transparency and democratic principles in an international context.

All documents mentioned above are all linked from Swedish ICOM's website:
http://icomsweden.se/aktuellt/information-fran-svenska-icom-om-den-svara-tiden-inom-icom-internationellt/
There is also a collection of previous announcements and statements from the ICOM Sweden, Executive Board, ICOM-US, and an open letter to ICOM's management.
