Ernie Hall Aviation Museum The Ernie Hall Aviation Museum’s purpose is to recognize the contributions made by U.S. aviators. Museum namesake, Ernest C.

The Ernie Hall Aviation Museum was founded in 2014 to recognize the contributions made by U.S. aviators in advancing aeronautics, particularly those aviators with local ties. The museum will display aviation artifacts and collectibles in addition to promoting education through lectures, gatherings, tours and other events at the future site of the museum. The first major event, Wings-n-Wheels is scheduled for August 9–10, 2014 at the musem facility and on the grounds of SLOAS Airfield. Hall, was born in 1890, in Trumbull County, Ohio. He first flew in 1909 with the Wright Brothers, who were among his flight teachers. In 1915, Hall opened his own flight school, the Hall Flying School, at Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. Then during World War I, he trained pilots at the Curtiss School of Aviation in Virginia and then at Call Field in Texas. Following World War I, Hall settled in Warren, Ohio, where he established The Hall Flying School at his airfield on Route 46, east of Warren. Hall operated the school continuously until his death in 1972, except during the time he was appointed by the Governor to serve as Ohio Aeronautic Director. Hall is believed to be the first man continuously employed in aviation for over fifty years.

The Ernie Hall Aviation Museum will be closed on Sunday, September 20 in honor of our treasurer, Tom Grohl. The staff will be attending his memorial service. Thank you for your understanding. The museum will be open on Saturday, Sept. 19 noon-3:00.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of museum treasurer, Tom Grohl, on Saturday. Tom has been involved with the museum since its inception and has performed many duties from cutting grass on the runway, co-director, and treasurer. He was instrumental in developing our yearly airplane raffle that funds the museum’s charitable donations and scholarships to aviation students. Most importantly, Tom became like family to the Griffins. He shared in our joys and our grief. His loss will leave a huge void at the museum and in the local aviation community. Our deepest sympathy to his family…Tom’s spirit will always soar at the Ernie Hall Aviation Museum.

Well you just never know what’s going to happen at the museum. We opened the hangar door and a little while later, noticed a female hummingbird had come in and was flying around the ceiling, stopping to rest on the planes displayed up there. We turned off the lights, thinking she’d see the sky, but that didn’t draw her out. Finally, desperate to get her out before she collapsed, I ran home and got my spare hummingbird feeder. We placed it below the hangar door and that did the trick. She had a refreshing sip and out she flew! We love all flying things at the Ernie Hall Aviation Museum!

Come on out to the Ernie Hall Aviation Museum to see our latest airplane donated to us by PIA. This 1954 Beechcraft Twin Bonanza was moved this morning from PIA’s campus at the Youngstown Warren Regional Airport to the museum. It is temporarily located between the museum and the new hangar until the wings can be affixed later in August. It’s an excellent example of a multi engine plane. Sitting next to the Bleriot, it shows how far aviation came on only a few decades!
