In the 1920s, the Francis Land House property was a dairy farm. In this photograph, the DeFrees family, who owned the property at the time, and their pet dog are on the steps of the Francis Land House.

National Leathercraft Day was celebrated this past weekend, so let's highlight a leathery piece of our collection!

Dating to circa 1729, these decorative jugs, made entirely out of leather, were crafted as a gift from Princess Anne of Orange (1709-1759), daughter of King George II, for innkeeper John Ashford in appreciation for Ashford assisting in her recovery after she was thrown from her horse.

You can see these expressive jugs in person, as they're currently on display in the Thoroughgood Education Center, open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
