Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art

Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art Featuring contemporary art by national & regional artists for the Victoria and South Texas community Museum founder Ann Harithas has deep ties to Victoria.

Mission

Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art was founded to give the Victoria and South Texas community broad access to contemporary art by national and regional artists and curators while celebrating and drawing upon the cultural diversity of South Texas. The museum is also dedicated to furthering arts education in the community through supplemental and extracurricular programs coordinated wit

h area school districts and other institutions. History

Victoria’s heritage was born from the diversity of Mexican and European foundations and tolerance of the varied cultures and religions those immigrants brought. The Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art serves as an art and cultural nexus that reflects that rich history and promising future of South Texas. She grew up in Victoria and Tivoli and has been involved in creating art and curating artists since the 1970’s. From gallery owner to internationally exhibited artist, Mrs. Harithas also founded Houston’s Art Car Museum, and has dedicated herself to exploring contemporary art and its connection to the community. She chose to create an exhibition space at the “Five Points” intersection for both its literal central location and its symbolic placement at the “crossroads” of South Texas. The museum has been crafted from a repurposed car dealership built in the mid-20th century, and is currently in the process of a multi-year remodeling effort. The museum is independently funded, and admission is always free of charge for visitors.

On January 31 from 5-8pm, Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art will host the opening of a new exhibition of paintings by Rock Romano.

Romano’s paintings are joyful fusions between abstract and representational approaches where he invites the viewer to create new connections in his work. Primarily landscapes, Romano also includes portraiture and other subject matter, telling stories with color, structure, and archetypal patterns illustrating his own visual reflections while prompting visitors to come along for the ride. Rock Romano was born in Houston’s Fifth Ward and was a visual artist before moving into music. As a musician he has performed with and produced artists from Houston and around the world. While a full-time musician, he has never stopped painting. This exhibition captures a slice of that visual world that Romano is creating along with his music.

The opening reception, Saturday, January 31, will feature live entertainment by Steve Gilbert and light refreshments from 5-8PM.
