2026 Marconi Museum Open House - Official Recap! 🙌❤️🏁⚡️

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the historic Tustin Thunder Road Races and more than 30 years of giving through the Marconi Foundation for Kids!

This year’s Open House gave us the opportunity to reflect on an important chapter in the history of the Marconi Automotive Museum & Foundation for Kids. From the special Tustin Thunder display and stories from the era, to limited-edition memorabilia and a look back at what helped shape the museum into what it is today, it was incredibly special to share this legacy with our community.

Three decades later, Tustin Thunder remains an unforgettable part of Orange County’s automotive history, having brought tens of thousands of motorsports fans together at the former Marine Corps Air Station here in Tustin.

We were also blown away by the incredible turnout of exotic, classic, collector, and race cars that filled the property and helped make this year’s Open House one to remember.

To every vehicle owner, guest, vendor, sponsor, volunteer, staff member, photographer, and supporter who helped make the day possible; Thank you!

For more than 30 years, your support has allowed us to celebrate automotive history while continuing the mission at the heart of the Marconi Foundation for Kids: giving back to children in need throughout our community.

Thank you for helping us, help kids! ✨

30 years ago, the Tustin Thunder Road Races debuted at the former Marine Corps Air Station Tustin, transforming the base into a temporary road-racing circuit beneath the iconic Tustin Blimp Hangars.

Held August 2–4, 1996, Tustin Thunder brought the sights, sounds, and excitement of motorsports to Orange County on an unforgettable scale. The weekend featured vintage road racing, a massive car and motorcycle show, karting, drag racing exhibitions, family entertainment, and much more, all within the extraordinary setting of the former military air station.

Spearheaded by Dick and John Marconi, the event brought together racers, collectors, enthusiasts, families, and tens of thousands of spectators from across the country. John also took to the circuit himself, racing several cars from the Marconi collection throughout the historic weekend.

But Tustin Thunder represented far more than racing.

At its heart was the same purpose that inspired Dick and John to establish the Marconi Automotive Museum and Foundation for Kids: using their shared passion for automobiles to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children. The event helped support the Foundation and its charitable mission, bringing the community together around motorsports while giving back to children in need.

Three decades later, the roar of the engines may no longer echo across the air station, but the memories, impact, and legacy of Tustin Thunder continue to live on.

Today, we proudly remember the event that turned a former military base into one of Orange County’s most unforgettable racing destinations and celebrate the vision of Dick and John Marconi that made it possible.

Happy 30th Anniversary to the Tustin Thunder Road Races! 🏁

🗓️ Sunday, August 2, 2026
🕙 10:00 AM–2:00 PM

Join us for a FREE, family-friendly day of food, fun, and an incredible selection of vehicles as we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the historic Tustin Thunder Road Races and more than 30 years of giving through the Marconi Foundation for Kids.

This year’s Open House will pay tribute to one of Orange County’s most memorable motorsports events, the Tustin Thunder Road Races. Originally held at the former Marine Corps Air Station Tustin beneath the iconic Tustin Blimp Hangars, Tustin Thunder brought together racers, collectors, and enthusiasts from across the country for a weekend unlike any other. Spearheaded by John & Dick Marconi, the event featured vintage road racing on a temporary course built from the military base’s taxiways and helicopter pads, along with a massive car and motorcycle show, karting, drag racing exhibitions, family entertainment, and more. Drawing tens of thousands of spectators, Tustin Thunder became one of Orange County’s most memorable automotive events while supporting the Marconi Foundation for Kids and its charitable mission of helping kids.

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tustin Thunder in conjunction with our annual Open House event, we’re bringing a piece of that excitement back to the Marconi Automotive Museum. Guests will enjoy a special display honoring the event, stories from the era, and a look back at the racing career of John and Dick Marconi. To commemorate the occasion, we will also debut a special-edition Tustin Thunder anniversary t-shirt featuring several of the iconic race cars John campaigned during the 1990s as well as a museum archive sale of automotive magazines, books and more! Available exclusively at the Open House.

🏁 If you plan to bring an exotic, classic, collector, or race car, spaces in the main parking lot will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional parking will be available for spectators.
