Third String QB Mac Jones threw a 94-yard pass to Jaylen Waddle for a touchdown in 2018 against UL Lafayette with 1:30 left in the third quarter. A foreshadowing of what was to come in a few years.

A marque play in the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship between Alabama and Clemson. Kenyan Drake returned a Clemson kickoff in the fourth quarter 95 yards for a touchdown. It is one of the most electrifying plays of the game, further extending Alabama’s lead and eventually resulting in their second consecutive national championship.

For this play, we mark a record in Alabama history. Chris Anderson broke a run from the 4-yard line for 96 yards against Temple in 1991. This run broke Harry Gilmer's record for the longest touchdown run of 95 yards which took place against Kentucky in 1945. Anderson’s record still stands today.

Our next electric play is 98-yard kickoff return touchdown by Jaylen Waddle against Auburn in 2019. Being down 17 – 10 in the second quarter, Waddle grabbed the kick then proceeded to rip the momentum away from Auburn by returning the kick for a touchdown to make the score 17 – 17.

Defensive back Zabien Brown’s 99 yard pick 6 of Tennessee’s Joey Aguilar in 2025. With 9 seconds left, Brown stepped in front of Aguilar’s pass the returned in 99 yards for a touchdown. This play gave Alabama a 23-7 lead going into half against the #11 ranked Vols.

This year instead of highlighting players with numbers, the Paul W. Bryant Museum will be featuring players who went the specific number of yards related to each play. Leading off our Countdown to Kickoff for 2026 is Minkah Fitzpatrick's 100-yard interception return for a touchdown against Arkansas in 2016.
