Preserved History — Shared History
There are moments at the Cheshire Railroad Depot when you can almost imagine what this place must have looked like when the railroad was still alive with passengers, baggage, express shipments, and trains coming and going.
Yesterday was one of those moments.
We are incredibly honored to have this beautiful Boston & Maine baggage cart on loan from the Boston & Maine Railroad Historical Society. These carts were once a familiar sight on station platforms throughout New England, carrying passengers' luggage, mail, express shipments, and other goods between the depot and waiting trains.
For Depot Day, we had the privilege of displaying the cart on our old station platform, directly in front of Boston & Maine RDC #6154.
What a sight it was.
To see the baggage cart sitting on that platform with #6154 behind it felt like a small piece of railroad history had returned to Troy.
We are extremely grateful to the Boston & Maine Railroad Historical Society for trusting us with the care and display of this remarkable artifact. We don't take that privilege lightly. We are proud to preserve it, share its story, and allow another generation to experience a little of what railroad life once looked like here in New England.
Yesterday wasn't simply about displaying an old baggage cart and an old railcar.
It was about bringing history back to life.
And for just a little while, standing on that old platform and looking at the cart in front of #6154, it almost felt as though the next train might be arriving at any moment.

What an AMAZING day!

Honestly, we’re not sure there are enough words to describe our 5th Annual Depot Day.

From the wonderful vendors and organizations who joined us — the Monadnock Sno-Moles, Fudge Around and Find Out, Fast Friends Greyhound Rescue, Monadnock Rail Trail Collaborative, Troy Recreation and their incredible food, the American Legion, Time For Ice Cream, and everyone who brought their beautiful cars for our Meet & Greet — you all helped make today something truly special.

And then there were all of YOU.

To everyone who came out on this beautiful fall weekend to visit the Cheshire Railroad Depot, tour #6154, buy a raffle ticket, grab something to eat, explore our history, bring a car, support our guests, or simply stop by and say hello — THANK YOU.

Seeing the Depot filled with people, hearing the conversations and laughter, watching families explore #6154 and sharing the history we love so much made every hour of work leading up to today worth it.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers. The hours, hard work, dedication and love they have poured into the Depot and #6154 cannot possibly be measured. Today belonged to all of you.

And, of course, Hobo — The Cheshire Depot Dog — was quite certain that the entire event had been organized specifically for him.

Between the belly rubs, attention and his Hobo Hide & Seek, which was a HUGE hit with the kids, we’re beginning to think he may have been right.

And we certainly cannot forget the incredibly generous businesses and sponsors who helped make our Depot Day raffle such a success!

A HUGE thank you to Swanzey Oil, New England Fleet Services, Tempestas, Troy Pizza Barn, and all of the wonderful businesses and individuals who donated prizes and supported us.

Your generosity gave us an amazing selection of raffle prizes and, more importantly, showed once again what an incredible community we are fortunate to be part of.

We are so very grateful to each and every one of you for supporting the Cheshire Railroad Depot, our volunteers, and the continued preservation of our railroad history.

Today wasn’t just an event.

It was neighbors, friends, families, volunteers and organizations coming together to celebrate our community and keep a little piece of railroad history alive.

🚂 TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY! 🚂

Join us Saturday, October 3rd for our 5th Annual Depot Day at the Cheshire Railroad Depot in Troy!

After months of planning, we are finally ready to welcome you for a day filled with history, community, family fun and, of course, trains!

🇺🇸 The American Legion will present a beautiful Field of Honor at the War Memorial at the Depot.

❄️ The Monadnock Sno-Moles will be joining us with their snow groomer and selling raffle tickets to support the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association member clubs.

●Fast Friends Greyhound Rescue will be here!

●A local vendor will have delicious homemade fudge.

●The Troy Recreation Department will be serving up food.

●Check out our Car Meet & Greet and see what rolls into the Depot!

●Our younger visitors can join Hobo’s Hide & Seek, search for Hobo throughout the Depot grounds and turn in their completed card for a prize!

●We’ll also have our Depot Day Raffle with some fantastic prizes, including $100 off 150 gallons of home heating oil from Swanzey Oil, plus many more!

And you certainly can’t come to Depot Day without stepping aboard our very own Boston & Maine Budd RDC #6154 and seeing how far this incredible piece of railroad history has come.

And yes…

Hobo — The Cheshire Depot Dog will be here!

Come tour the Depot, explore #6154, meet our friends and volunteers, grab something to eat, check out the cars, take a walk through railroad history and spend the day with us.

The surprises just keep coming for Depot Day!
Hobo – The Cheshire Depot Dog has been very busy planning a little something special for our younger visitors… Hobo’s Hide & Seek! 🐾
Hobo has hidden his special stickers around the Depot, and he needs some good detectives to find them all!
●Stop by and pick up your Hobo’s Hide & Seek card
●Explore the Depot and find all the hidden Hobo stickers
●Mark them off as you go
●Bring your completed card back and receive a prize!
It’s just one more fun way to explore the Depot, discover a little railroad history, and make some memories along the way.

We are excited to welcome the Monadnock Sno-Moles to our 5th Annual Depot Day — Saturday, October 3rd!
This dedicated group does so much to help maintain our local rail trails and keep them looking great and accessible for everyone to enjoy.
And they’re bringing along their SNOW GROOMER for you to check out!

The Sno-Moles will also be selling raffle tickets to benefit New Hampshire Snowmobile Association Member Clubs — and wait until you hear the FIRST PRIZE…

Eeeeek…we can hardly believe it!

One week from today is our 5th Annual Depot Day!

Five years ago, we started Depot Day with a simple goal—to open the doors, share our history, tell the stories of the Cheshire Railroad, and give people a reason to come together at this very special place.

And look at us now.

Our beautiful Depot continues to welcome visitors, Boston & Maine BUDD RDC #6154 has a new home in Troy, and every year there are more stories to tell, more history to share, and more memories to make.

More Progress on #6154!
Our incredible volunteers have spent the last two days hard at work on projects around the Cheshire Railroad Depot—and, of course, on our girl, B&M RDC #6154!
One of the latest additions is the installation of her engine compartment doors, beautifully cut for us by Ideas Inc. of Lowell, Massachusetts. A HUGE shout-out and thank you to Ideas Inc. for doing such an outstanding job. They look fantastic!
And none of this progress happens without the people who continue to give their time, talents, and plenty of hard work to this project.
A very special thank you to our dedicated volunteers Larry Kemp, Dan O'Brien , and Kyle Dearth for everything they've accomplished over the past two days—and for everything they continue to do for the Depot and #6154.
Every project, big or small, brings another piece of her story back to life.
We couldn't do it without our volunteers and the wonderful people and businesses who continue to support this journey.

What a wonderful visit!
Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming the Peterborough Pedal Together Group to the Cheshire Railroad Depot.
What a wonderful group! Judging by all the smiles, we think everyone had a great time exploring the Depot, learning about our railroad history, and of course visiting #6154.
Days like these truly mean so much to us. We cherish the opportunity to open our doors, meet new friends, hear their stories, and share a little piece of our history with them.
Thank you to the Peterborough Pedal Together Group for making the Cheshire Railroad Depot part of your day. It was truly our pleasure to have you aboard!

We’re getting closer to our 5th Annual Cheshire Railroad Depot Day, and this year we have some fantastic raffle prizes!
Tickets are $5 EACH and will be available beginning this Saturday at the Cheshire Railroad Depot. Can’t make it to the Depot? Message us right here on Facebook and we’ll help you get your tickets!
So far, our prizes include a $100 Hannaford Gift Certificate, two separate $50 Market Basket Gift Certificates, $100 off 150 gallons of home heating oil from Swanzey Oil, a $130 gift certificate for a free alignment from New England Fleet Services, and a $149 Nexgrill 2-Burner Portable Gas Grill from The Home Depot — with more prizes still to come!

Remembering the Great New England Hurricane of 1938

The Great New England Hurricane of 1938 left a lasting impression when it barreled through the Monadnock Region 88 years ago today.

Growing up, I heard so many stories from my parents, aunts and uncles about that day. Although I wasn't there, their memories became a part of my memories, too.

For so many families in our area, stories of the Hurricane of '38 have been passed from one generation to the next.
