This complex print was created using nine printing elements across three sections, combining spit-bite etching, heliorelief woodcuts, and soft-ground etching. Each technique contributed a distinct layer of color and texture, with grayish-blue and black inks creating depth and contrast. After printing, the sections were joined by hand and individually painted with Titanium White acrylic.
Heliorelief, a relief-printing process developed at Graphicstudio, transforms images drawn and painted on translucent Mylar into woodblocks using light exposure and sandblasting. Each block is then proofed and printed by hand using traditional relief-printing techniques.
The result is a richly layered work that showcases the experimentation, technical precision, and craftsmanship at the heart of Graphicstudio’s publishing process.
