October 16- Stop by and visit our Building and Museum area before the Homecoming Parade! Open 1:30-2:45 p.m. on Friday! Get a good parade spot and come on in to check out Surry's history!

October 17- Chippokes Harvest Festival is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We will have items on display and for sale at our table! Books about Surry! Cash/ checks only! ( Weather/ Rain could alter our plans!!)!)

Come to Claremont this Saturday morning, October 10, for the Fall Festival from 11 a.m.to 4 p.m. Surry County VA Historical Society & Museums will have a table to share our purpose and resources available! Check us out! We will have some of our books and items for sale ...cash/ check only! Surry books, Jamestown coins, Tina Epps' prints, etc.! Thanks!

Thank you for all who made this such a wonderful day! The church service and luncheon at Carsley provided a great and meaningful start. Even with the rain, Surry County Historical Society had a pretty good turnout for tours at Rogers Store. We met newcomers to the Carsley neighborhood, while former and current residents enjoyed visiting, too! The store looked great thanks to our volunteer cleaning crew! Two of our vendors were able to set up and share their skills with us! Thanks to everyone who came out to visit and/ or help!

Thank you to our Volunteer Cleaners at Rogers Store these last two days! It still has its country store feeling, but a lot of dust and grime had been cleared! Worked so hard I didn't get pictures but will post on Sunday!

What exciting and historic research is going on at Jamestown Rediscovery! We are especially proud of one of the leaders in the research, Surry's own, M.A. Richardson Hartley, or Mary Anna as many know her, daughter of Bill and the late Bess Richardson. Friday, October 2 at 9 a.m. at Rogers Store! Surry County, VA Historical Society needs extra helpers for a ONE OR TWO DAY CLEANING AND ORGANIZING project at Rogers Store on Carsley Road! Are there INDIVIDUALS, VOLUNTEER CHURCH, CIVIC, FAMILY, OR OTHER Group that can help us out for probably 3-4 hours on Friday, Oct. 2 & possibly Sat., Oct. 3.
Rogers Store- Use 5609 Carsley Rd., Waverly, VA for GPS, but it is in Surry County!
Each shelf needs to be emptied, wiped/dusted, and organized. Items need to be moved around/off the floors so they can be vacuumed and then given a quick mopping. Light bulbs need replacing! There’s some sweeping, maybe even a few squatter “bugs/bodies” to toss in the trash, and light yard work to do!
As many as 20+ people could work on this at the same time, with various assignments. We would start at 9:00 a.m. on Oct. 2and see if we can do it all in one morning or decide if Oct. 3 is needed. Some light yard work, too.
Can you help? Let’s plan to start at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, and work until 12 noon, but we are flexible and open to other ideas! If you can join and/or your group/family can come help us, call/text Fran (757-377-7985) or email [email protected] watch Facebook for more exact times/dates next week and come on!
Suggestions: Wear work clothes, shoes, gloves, and bring some rags, any cleaning materials you can add, and a snack if you need it. We will have water and work on other energy bars and snacks!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

You can sign up to just come one morning or afternoon a month or as many others as you would like! For example, YOU could do ONE afternoons 1p.m. – 4 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon or the 1st and 2nd Tuesdays each month!! You decide, and then come and talk with us!! You can learn to help with research, help file the many items here that need to be put in our files or on display, or just look at our collection of materials and guide people to look when they come to visit!
