Frank Lloyd Wright's Westcott House

On this day in 2019, the Frederick C. Robie House was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list as part of The 20th-Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. It was recognized for how Wright invented a new way of experiencing space, tearing down the walls between rooms so that light, air, and people could pass through. The Westcott House shares those same ideas: interior spaces flow freely from room to room, keeping loved ones connected even while moving through different parts of the home.

Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy led the 15-year effort to secure a place for Wright’s buildings on the World Heritage list, and continues to lead the work of protecting them all. The ideas about how to design and live that are embodied in Wright’s buildings must be experienced to be understood, and they must be preserved to be experienced.

Thank you to our board member & volunteer extraordinaire Rita Lane for representing the Westcott House at the dedication of the new rest areas on I-70 in Madison County. Governor Mike DeWine and Fran DeWine both spoke among others. The cultural destinations including the Westcott House, Hartman Rock Garden, Gammon House Underground Railroad Historic Landmark, Clark County Historical Society at the Heritage Center are featured on the Madison-WB side.

We are grateful for this opportunity to increase awareness of our site and other gems in the area.
