Bring your lunch. Feed your mind. Join the conversation. The Bellman Brown Bag Series is back next week from Noon to 1PM.

We have a quick schedule update: the September 9 presenter has changed. We’re excited to welcome Rosalie Aslesen and Johanna Meier Della Vecchia, who will now present “A Presentation on the Spearfish Museum”

What stories should a Spearfish Museum tell? And what role could it play in our community?

Rosalie and Johanna will share their vision for a future Spearfish Museum, exploring its mission, community significance, and potential to preserve and celebrate the historic, cultural, and innovative spirit of Spearfish and its people.

And, honestly, the timing is pretty cool. We’re also partnering with the Spearfish Museum for Brushes & History: Plein Air Paint Out on September 20, so this is a great chance to learn more about the museum and the stories behind the place we call home before celebrating them through art.

Up Next: Ghost Stories by the Black Hills Story Tellers - Oct 14th

The Bellman Brown Bag Series is a monthly humanities program exploring ideas, history, literature, art, and culture.

Back by popular demand, Self-Care Sundays are returning! ✨

On the second Sunday of each month, CAT Scratch Studios, Creative Explorations Nonprofit , and The Matthews invite you to slow down, settle in, and make space for yourself through the restorative practice of sound meditation.

Each month, you’ll be guided by a different sound bath practitioner who will create an immersive, meditative experience using resonant instruments and soothing sound frequencies. Simply get comfortable, close your eyes, and allow the sounds to support a moment of stillness, relaxation, and presence.

Come as you are. Bring a yoga mat or anything that helps you get cozy, and spend a little time reconnecting with yourself and your community. We can’t wait to welcome you back. 💫

$15 per session | Only 30 spots available

Want to make Self-Care Sundays part of your monthly ritual? Grab a Series Pass* for just $50 and guarantee your spot for all four sessions!

*Series Pass is valid for the September–December 2026 sessions only. A new Series Pass for the January–April 2027 sessions will be available at a later date.

A heartfelt thank-you to the incredible sound practitioners who help create these beautiful, restorative experiences for our community.

Meet the Ruffs!

Some families pass down recipes and heirlooms. The Ruff family has passed down a love of the stage.

With a combined 22 years performing in Theatre on the Run, Amy, Travis and Alivia are a huge part of this event’s history. From one generation to the next, they’ve shared their talent, energy, and love of storytelling with audiences year after year.

We’re so grateful for the Ruffs and the memories they’ve helped create along the way. They truly are part of what makes Theatre on the Run so special.

Now the question is… who did it?!

Today’s the day. The Founding Friends roster for The Talent Is Here closes tonight.

Any gift, any amount. A monthly Friend gift is the easiest way to keep the lights on all year.

The talent is here. What’s missing is a place to be seen. That’s been our job at the Matthews downtown since 1906.

This 15th annual Theatre on the Run is extra special. Charlotte Dougherty, a beloved playwright, board member, volunteer, and friend of The Matthews, wrote this play just for this year. She was incredibly talented, and she meant so much to so many of us. Join us for this memorable season and hear the final work of C.A. Dougherty: Murder at Legend Manor. We can’t wait to hear what you like most about it.
