Michigan Flywheelers Museum Announces $100,000 Challenge Grant for Major Entrance Expansion
SOUTH HAVEN, MI – The Michigan Flywheelers Museum is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a $100,000 Challenge Grant dedicated to the construction of a brand-new ticket booth and gift shop. This project marks the first phase of a transformative new entrance designed to enhance the visitor experience at one of the region’s most popular historical destinations.
The proposed facility will serve as a modern "front door" to the museum’s 80-acre campus. Designed to blend historical charm with contemporary convenience, the new barn-style structure will include:
• Improved Admission Area: A dedicated area for guests to comfortably purchase tickets for museum events like the Antique Engine and Tractor Show that is held in September.• Modern Amenities: Large, accessible, and modern restroom facilities to accommodate the museum's growing number of annual visitors.• Expanded Gift Shop: A significantly larger retail space featuring unique Flywheelers logo items, tractor-themed home decor and old fashion toys. As a Challenge Grant, every dollar donated by the community and supporters will be matched, up to $100,000. This provides a unique opportunity for donors to see their contributions work twice as hard toward preserving Michigan’s agricultural heritage.
"This grant is a monumental stepping stone for the Flywheelers," said Patrick Ingalls, president of the Michigan Flywheelers Museum. "As we continue to grow, our goal is to provide a first-class experience for our guests from the moment they pull onto the grounds. This new entrance isn't just a building; it’s an investment in the future of our museum.”
The new entrance and building is part of the Black River Railroad project. For the last three years, museum volunteers have been laying a 15 inch track around the property for a Grand Scale steam train that, when finished, visitors will be able to ride on.
The museum is asking local businesses, historical enthusiasts, and the South Haven community to help meet the $100,000 goal. Contributions can be made online via the museum’s website through Zeffy, by mail or attending one of the many fundraisers planned. All donations towards the Challenge Grant are tax-deductible.
Located east of South Haven, Michigan, the Michigan Flywheelers Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of antique gas and steam engines, tractors, and farm machinery. With a recreated "Olde Town," working sawmill, and educational exhibits, the museum offers a hands-on look at the evolution of Michigan’s machinery and agricultural life.
