One perk of preparing for South Haven celebrating 150 years, is digging into all the incredible history! Isn’t this a great group picture – how about the swim wear!?!? 😆Special thanks to the Historical Association of South Haven for the photo! Thes are guys that got the job done. Removed the carpet and plywood covering the maple floors of the main hall at HASH. We still have some repairs to complete but the bulk of the floor looks pretty good. Jim Ollgaard was behind the camera.

EJ Hill Jewelry - 1800s in South Haven

In the late 1800s, E. J. Hill had a jewelry store located approximately where the employee entrance for Clementine's South Haven is, on the west side of the building. What makes this image particularly interesting is the fact that you are able to view the very same, imposing jeweler's regulator clock that was in this store as you wait for a table at Clementines today.

Surrounded by a bevy of South Haven beauties (c. 1890s), prominent businessman, Uzziah Conger is pictured playing double solitaire. Mr. Conger owned a great deal of real estate in the northeast section of South Haven and was involved with many business enterprises, as well as community organizations. Due to the impact he made on the community, Conger St. was named in his honor and memory. Standing behind Mr. Conger (third from left) is Florence Ely Hale.
