Traces of Texas reader Dan Cockrum kindly shared this photo of his grandfather, Bud Marable (right end of back row), with a group of young cowboys in Snyder, Texas. Dan doesn't know the names of the others or the exact date the photo was made but believes it was in either the late 1880s or early 1890s before Bud met and married Dan's grandmother. His parents lived in Scurry County near Snyder at this time. The photo is interesting to me not only because it's a great portrait but because the photographer, Irene Cummings, was a woman. I've not seen too many studios that were operated by female photographers.

Thank you, Dan. I love it!
