Michele Keib grew up in Tully, New York, watching her dad set up his easel in his free time like it was the most natural thing in the world. That image stuck with her, even if painting itself didn't come until much later.
It wasn't until her kids hit high school and suddenly had no interest in spending time with mom that she found herself with hours to fill. She picked up acrylics, and then for her birthday a girlfriend gave her a set of water-soluble oils. That was thirty years ago. She has not put the brush down since.
Her background is anything but traditional. Secretarial school, the contract furniture industry, the Erie Canal Museum, and most recently Ga***rd Archival where she designed and sold custom exhibit cases to some of the top museums on the East Coast. All of it shows up in her work. She loves a straight line, which is why streetscapes draw her more than landscapes. She is fascinated by the abstract geometry of gemstones, the majesty of church steeples against a stormy sky, the way light refracts through a chandelier or a butterfly wing.
She recently completed a beautiful commission for a rendition of the streets of Skaneateles.
