Small packages. Hidden stories. A whole world waiting to be discovered.

For natural history artist Betty, working with specimens is not about taking from nature. It begins with a deep love and respect for it.

Each piece starts with curiosity, patience, and preservation: slowly revealing the details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Meet Betty and discover the stories behind the artists of Columbia City Gallery.

This was somebody’s baby.
For this series, Miwa Gardner worked with people in recovery.
Listening to their past, but not trying to reconstruct it.
Because sometimes the past isn’t fully accessible. And it didn’t need to be.
What mattered more was who they are now, and where they’re going.
Each portrait invites a simple question:what are they feeling?

On view at Columbia City Gallery.

Miwa Gardner’s project was supported, in part, by a grant from 4Culture.
