Allen County Historical Museum & Genealogical Society This Allen County, Kentucky museum holds countless artifacts from the area's history, and includes a library with data and information of family histories.

COME SEE WHERE HISTORY LIVES! This beautiful Allen County, Kentucky museum and library seek to discover, preserve, interpret and exhibit cultural heritage materials and memorabilia that provide insights into Allen County's history. The museum preserves written materials such as letters, diaries, pension applications, and church minutes. Clothing and other textiles capture historic importance, show beauty, or illustrate creative skills. All artifacts help us to understand our cultural history. The ever-growing library is located now on the museum's first floor. The genealogical resources include family history books and files, Allen County soldier files, an obituary collection, a large Civil War collection, and more. There is a microfilm reader that is available to view and print images from the many reels of historical documentation, including wills, deeds, marriages, and other court records, along with microfilm of the Citizen-Times issues from 1911 through 2001. There are also publications for sale. The Museum & Library is open Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00 to 3:00pm and, at other times, by appointment. We invite you to take a look at our museum which is located in the Dr. Pellie G. Graves House that was entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. Our museum is free of cost and our volunteers look forward to meeting you!

Allen County Historical Society – October Monthly Meeting 🇺🇸

The Allen County Historical Society would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our special guest presenters at our monthly meeting on Monday, October 19, 2026.

For those who were unable to attend the annual Graveline Tour, we were delighted to welcome three of the tour’s talented actors, who shared a recap of their participation and brought a piece of Allen County’s rich history to our meeting.

👏 Our special presenters were:

🌿 Lisa Johnson Wyman who portrayed Elizabeth Page Motley, wife of Captain John Motley.

🇺🇸Jimmy Gillenwater, who portrayed John Gatewood.

📜 Tim Meador, who portrayed Reverend James Page Durham.

What makes these presentations especially meaningful is that all three presenters are descendants of Revolutionary War-connected soldiers and leaders who eventually settled in Allen County, Kentucky.

Their participation helps bring our local history to life and reminds us of the remarkable people and families whose stories are woven into the history of our community.

We are grateful to Lisa, Jimmy, and Tim for sharing their time, talents, and family connections with us. Thank you for helping preserve and celebrate the heritage of Allen County!

Tonight is the night!! Tell your friends! See you there!!

If you missed the Graveline Tour (and even if you didn’t), join us at our next monthly meeting where we will be able to hear from some of the actors from the tour with their stories. Light refreshments will be served. October 19, 2026, at 6pm.

As we share more photos of our amazing night, we would also like to mention a special thank you to Magistrate John Buchanan for volunteering his time and services to come out last night to video and photograph the Graveline Tour. Thank you also to S&S Signs for generously creating our headstones and signage.

Many many other volunteers helped to make this evening happen, from our loyal tour guides to our young volunteers who checked on our reenactors and who helped in countless other ways.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Saturday’s Graveline Tour was a great success! Thank you to all who participated in any way! Friday night’s tour was canceled due to the rain, but Saturday night’s tour featured beautiful weather! Thank you to all who attended! If you missed it, we will be having highlights of the tour at our next monthly meeting on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 6pm at the museum. See you next year!

IMPORTANT GRAVELINE TOUR UPDATE📣

Due to rain and concerns about the weather moving through our area, tonight’s Graveline Tour — Friday, October 2 — has been canceled.

We waited as long as we could before making this decision, but the safety of our guests, reenactors, volunteers, and everyone involved must come first.

The good news: Saturday night’s tour is still ON! 🎉

Join us tomorrow, October 3, from 5:30–8:30 p.m. for our special Revolutionary War Tribute at Scottsville’s Old City Cemetery.
Tours begin in the lobby of the Allen County Public Library in downtown Scottsville.

Thank you for your understanding, and please help us spread the word. We hope to see you tomorrow evening! 🇺🇸🏮
