The Halcomb House Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s Halcomb Family Scholarship. Congratulations and best wishes to Ally Anderson (Bryan College), Ryan Wolfe (Campbellsville University), Emma Rose Brown (Murray State University), and Adalyn Skipworth (Western Kentucky University). David Burch, Mayor, City of Scottsville, presented the awards on behalf of the Foundation at the Allen County-Scottsville High School “Awards Night” on May 6.

This scholarship award was established in memory of Dr. and Mrs. F. j. Halcomb, Jr. The $2,000 award recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated scholastic achievement and one or more of the following: outstanding leadership in their school or community, exceptional commitment to their community as demonstrated by community service, and extraordinary courage in overcoming a major personal obstacle.

2024 was an excellent year for the Halcomb House Foundation.

We were able to award four scholarships to deserving and hard-working graduates from Allen County-Scottsville High.

In the busyness of spring, we missed photos with them... so while they were on Winter break, we caught up with them to hear how their first semesters went!

Not pictured but still recipients are Allie Costello (Murray State University) and Shayna Britt (Asbury University).

We always think of Mariola and her flowers at this time of year! If you ever ventured into her garden, you know she was willing to share the love!

Linda Cline talks about how Mariola would call on her to come admire her lily garden, and then give her flowers as she was leaving.

Today is World Laughter Day/First Day of Mental Health Awareness Month
and we all know that Dr. Halcomb loved to joke around!

Ben Smith relates a story about fishing in a lake in Texas with Dr. Halcomb. He describes how it was so hot that they were fishing with their shirts off, and Halcomb waited several days for the perfect moment to play a prank with a toy snake.
