This Sunday, miSci is opening its doors a little differently. Sensory Sunday runs from 9 to 11 AM on October 11, a sensory-friendly time designed for families who need a quieter, more accommodating museum experience.

Lower lights, reduced sound, and a slower pace so every family can explore comfortably. Sensory Sunday happens the second Sunday of every month. We hope to see you there.

Every day at miSci, someone is leading a tour, helping a kid through an activity, or making sure a program runs the way it should. A lot of those individuals are volunteers.

This Saturday, October 10th, join us and see what volunteering here actually looks like, ask questions, and find a role that fits your schedule and your interests.

You don't need a science degree. Former engineers, retired teachers, college students, and curious neighbors have all found a place here. If you like people, questions, and the occasional "wait, how does that work?" moment, you'll fit right in.

Stop by from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Saturday, or tell a friend who's been looking for a way to get involved.

The dinosaurs are back, and this time, they're moving.

Age of the Dinosaurs is an exciting animatronic exhibit, bringing a T-Rex, Apatosaurus, Chasmosaurus, and more to life right in our Changing Gallery. See them up close, learn what made these creatures so extraordinary, and let your imagination run a little wild.

Happy World Teachers' Day to every teacher who makes science come alive for their students.
Last year, 19,179 students got a miSci educational experience, through 166 field trips and 192 outreach programs. Behind every one of those visits was a teacher who planned the trip, packed the permission slips, and believed their students deserved to see science up close.

To the teachers who answer "but why?" a hundred times a day and who keep curiosity going all year long: thank you. We're proud to learn alongside you.

Little ones, get ready for story time like you've never seen it. Kerry Tales returns this Saturday, October 3, from 10 to 10:45 AM, right inside our planetarium.

It's story time under the stars, just $5 per child, and it happens the first Saturday of every month. If you've never brought your little one to story time under the dome, today's a great day to start. See you this Saturday!

Three shows, one incredible dome.

Every Saturday and Sunday, our Suits-Bueche Planetarium comes alive with a live operator guiding you through the cosmos, projecting 8,500 stars and 24 constellations exactly as they'd appear from anywhere on Earth.

One World, One Sky at 12 PM — join Big Bird, Elmo, and friends on a night sky adventure. Best for ages 4 and up.

Cosmic Wonders: A Live Star Show at 1 PM — a full tour of the night sky's stars, planets, and stories. Best for ages 8 and up.

Mysteries of Your Brain at 3 PM — a full dome dive into how we sense, think, and perceive the world. Best for ages 8 and up.

Daytime shows are $5 with admission and free for Space Pass members. Grab tickets at the front desk or online, and spend an afternoon under the stars.

Did you know? miSci's archives are considered one of the most important collections in the world for studying the history of the electrical industry.

When miSci merged with the General Electric Hall of Electrical History in 1997, we inherited an extraordinary collection: roughly 10,000 patents, two million photographs, and countless films, business records, books, artifacts, and advertising materials documenting the rise of electricity and technology.

It's a big enough deal that researchers travel here from around the world just to spend time with our collection. Our history is bigger than most people realize. Follow along for more from the archive and drop any questions you might have for us in the comments!

miSci birthday parties run two hours and include self-guided museum time, a STEAM activity of your choice, a private customized planetarium show, and a party room set up and ready to go.

We handle the curiosity, discovery, and activities. You handle the cake (we don't provide food, but you're welcome to bring your own).

Please join us in welcoming Grant Barnhart, miSci's new Collection Manager!
In his new role Grant will oversee our internationally renowned Archives, which rank among the world's most important resources for the history of the electrical industry.
Relocating to Schenectady from New Paltz, Grant brings an experienced and varied background in collections care!

His path started in archaeology, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Potsdam, before discovering his true passion was object care rather than fieldwork. That discovery led him to Scotland, where he earned two master's degrees: an MLitt in Material Culture & Artefact Studies from the University of Glasgow, and an MSc in International Heritage Visualization from the Glasgow School of Art. Along the way, he's worked with archives, artwork, historic buildings, and even stone monuments, giving him a truly well-rounded perspective on collections of all kinds.

Looking ahead, we're excited to bring Grant's expertise and energy onto the team! Welcome to the miSci family, Grant!

Stay tuned, we'll share more about his background and first impressions of the museum and Schenectady in the coming weeks.
