Art Center Sarasota holds the distinction of being Sarasota’s first arts organization, originally founded in 1926 as the Sarasota Art Association by Marcia Rader, then Art Supervisor of the Sarasota School System. Incorporated as a nonprofit in 1941, the organization has called the Sarasota Bayfront Cultural District home since 1949. Today, Art Center Sarasota offers curated and juried exhibitions, outreach initiatives, and dynamic youth and adult education through classes, workshops, and special events—creating meaningful opportunities for art enthusiasts to learn, engage, and connect with their community. As a membership-based nonprofit organization, we view membership as an important means of supporting our mission to make the arts accessible to all. Now celebrating a remarkable 100 years of creativity, connection, and community, Art Center Sarasota invites everyone to take part in its Centennial Season. We had such a wonderful time hosting an Artist Talk with Jorge Blanco last night.

In Joy In Motion, Jorge Blanco showcases a collection of drawings, prints, and sculptures that celebrate playfulness and joy.

Jorge is a Venezuelan-American artist, internationally recognized for his public sculptures, graphic design, and illustrations.

His work is on view in our Galleries from now until Nov 14th, 2026.

Join us tomorrow night Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 5:30 pm for an intimate conversation with Jorge Blanco as he explains the inspirations behind the work in his current exhibition, Joy in Motion.

Doors Open at 5:00pm for mingling & refreshments, Artist Talk begins promptly at 5:30pm.

Jorge is a Venezuelan-American artist, internationally recognized for his public sculptures, graphic design and illustrations. He studied Industrial Design at the Neumann Institute of Design in Caracas before continuing his artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy.

His story is one of evolution, from a curious child inspired by abstract art to a celebrated artist whose colorful, uplifting sculptures dot public spaces. Jorge served as the Creative Director of the Children's Museum of Caracas, and he is widely recognized as the creator of the long-running comic strip El Náufrago (The Castaway).

Join us next week for this free event as Danny Canton walks us through his process for selecting the Award winners for Strange Weather.

This exhibition celebrates the surreal, inviting artists to explore worlds where reality bends, logic dissolves, and the unexpected becomes possible. Strange Weather serves as a metaphor for moments of transformation, uncertainty, and the uncanny rather than literal atmospheric conditions. Artists are encouraged to create work that embraces dreamlike imagery, psychological landscapes, improbable juxtapositions, and the strange beauty of the impossible.

Share your work with holiday shoppers at Art Center Sarasota's 2026 Holiday Sidewalk Sale! Artists, artisans, and makers are invited to reserve an outdoor booth to sell original artwork, handcrafted goods, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, home décor, holiday gifts, and more.

The Holiday Sidewalk Sale will take place on Saturday, December 5, throughout the Sam & Sally Shapiro Sculpture Garden, the Andrew & Lathrop Ford Bayfront Sculpture Garden, and the Bayfront Promenade in front of the Art Center.
