The theater world lost a great one today. Rest in peace . He was 91.

Pacifica has performed five of his works over the past fifteen years: Into The Woods (2008), Sunday in the Park with George (2011), Anyone Can Whistle (2014), West Side Story (2017), and Sweeney Todd (2020).

His work in musical theater with an unmistakable use of composition, lyrical genius, and character development make him the greatest musical theater auteur in American musical history. The list of major theater composers who wrote words to accompany their own scores (and vice versa) is a short one — it includes Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Frank Loesser, Jerry Herman and Noël Coward.

Pacifica pairs his work alongside William Shakespeare every three years for this reason.

If you have been in a PACARTS Sondheim musical, please post!
