Ed Moses (1926–2018) was one of the most influential figures in postwar American abstraction and a central force in the development of the Los Angeles art scene. Associated with the legendary Ferus Gallery and the generation of artists known as the "Cool School," Moses continually reinvented his practice, refusing to settle into a single style or method. His work emphasized process, intuition, and chance, challenging conventional ideas about the act of painting itself.

The short video below shows Ed Moses in conversation with William Turner, discussing his painting, practice, and process.

The exhibition MOSES@100 is on view at William Turner Gallery through September 5, 2026.

Thank you to Art & Object for featuring William Turner Gallery's upcoming show, "Moses@100" on their website!

"Moses@100", a show celebrating 100 years of Ed Moses, opens this Saturday July 11 with an opening from 5-8PM.

One hundred years after his birth, Moses remains one of the most original and influential figures in American art. For more than six decades, he pursued the unknown with unwavering intensity—a pursuit that continued until his final days and remains vividly present in the work he left behind.

10 years after "Moses@90", William Turner Gallery is pleased to present "Moses@100", opening July 11 with a reception from 5-8PM.

"Moses@90", was covered by the 2016 Los Angeles Times article, "At 90, abstract painter and ‘retired pl***oy’ Ed Moses has new works to show".

From the article: “He’s one of the preeminent mark makers in the States,” says Leslie Jones, who curated Moses’ LACMA show. “Ed doesn’t hide his mistakes. It’s actually part of his process... He wants you to understand how the work came into being. There are no secrets. It’s very honest.”

Learn more about "Moses@100" on the William Turner Gallery website.

Everything is in motion, not least of all the artist himself.
