It’s another weekend of Open Studios here at the Tannery and “The Mug” is OPEN at Radius! ☀️ We are loving the combo of ceramic mugs alongside other 3D mixed media works and 2D portraits. “The Mug” truly celebrates the potter and the portrait.

🖼️ THE PORTRAIT: Laura Rice has created a wonderful series of 2D works titled “Troublemakers.” These rapid fire portraits were created during a global sketching/modeling event with participants from around the world. Her use of color and sketch has created a gorgeous display of works highlighting individuality and community.

🪴 THE POTTER: Justin Rothshank’s collection of “Political Pottery” is a powerful bridge in the exhibition combining utility and the mug shot. He believes that artwork and creativity are a catalyst for social change and economic improvement. Creating beauty is integral to our human experience and offers an invitation to order, coherence and unity while raising awareness about social justice, objection to war, fair housing and more.

10 Open Studios artists are a part of “The Mug” exhibit including ceramicists Travis Adams, Honora Bacon, Mike Beebe, Rebeca Burciaga, Anna Cummins, Sophia Galarosa, Julie Gires, Jasper Marino and Matthew Stout. Hanging on the walls is Hildy Bernstein’s beautiful series of mixed media portraits. ❤️

🪩“The Retrospective” celebrates fifteen years of TWDCC tracing its evolution from its founding in 2011 as a cultural hub for modern, contemporary, and world dance to its role today as a vital home for movement, culture, and artistic expression.

🪩Through photography, film, memorabilia, and archival footage, the exhibition tells the story of TWDCC’s growth and its enduring impact on the local arts community. It documents the people, performances, and cultural traditions that have shaped the organization, including the work of legendary photographers who have captured dance
rooted in and inspired by the Black/African diaspora.

15 years of Tannery World Dance & Cultural Center! How lucky we are to be at the Tannery Arts Center with wonderful supportive neighbors - all pulling together to make this beautiful “Retrospective” come to life!
