Lots of folks have come into the gallery and ask if the works in Michael Garlington’s stunning exhibition are created using Photoshop. They are absolutely not!

Michael creates his elaborate narrative, photography-based sets entirely by hand, including the costumes, props, and environments. He uses photography, paper, collage, and wood.

These behind-the-scenes images show “the making of” - the photo shoots featuring superstars Willem Dafoe and Susan Sarandon, wearing extraordinary garments made from paper and photographic materials.

The final large-scale works are on view in the gallery.

Due to the lovely response from visitors and collectors, we are thrilled to extend this gorgeous and fascinating exhibition through the First Friday June. Final day: Sunday, June 7. Don’t miss it.

New work just arrived from Santa Cruz artist Cheryl Moreno.

Copper Split (24 x 12 x 2 in.) is plaster and ground pigment on wood panel, with a striking break through the center seam revealing a glimpse of copper pigment through the plaster surface. It feels like a hidden treasure beneath layers of earth and stone. 🤎

This beautiful piece arrived yesterday to replace a work that sold, and we are thrilled to share it with you.

We will be extending the lovely exhibition, “Rochambeau” through the First Friday of June.

DM or visit the gallery for details.

A little clip of Carol Tarzier dropping off some work on her way back from painting ‘en plein air’ at the 34th Annual Carmel Art Festival.

The painting on our left is called, “Morning, Cypress Point” and is 12x12 inches, oil on canvas with a blonde wood frame. The painting on our right is,”Point Lobos Morning” and 11x14 inches, also oil on canvas with a blonde wood frame.

We are big fans of Carol’s art and excited to have a new collection in the gallery to share with you soon!

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting students from UC Santa Cruz’s ‘Art Hustle to Go’ program for a tour of the gallery and conversations around exhibitions, curatorial work, and access to the arts.

Led by Val Miranda, Director of the Mary Porter Sesnon Gallery at UCSC, and supported by a grant she received from the California Arts Council, the program gives students opportunities to visit museums and galleries across the region and connect directly with arts professionals and institutions.

It was great to spend time with such an engaged group and hear their perspectives, questions, and reflections throughout the visit.

Thanks again to these bright and creative students and Val for joining us!

Thanks to Downtown Santa Cruz and Wines of Santa Cruz Mountains for a fun (and delicious :) event yesterday!
