Raised Beds and Composting Workshop

Raised bed planting and composting are a great gardening combo for growing vegetables and flowers. Gardeners have been building raised beds and creating compost for at least a lifetime, and the benefits in terms of growing success are well-known and well-practiced. And however small the scope of these endeavors, there is much satisfaction for the gardener in knowing your practices are contributing to a better environment – be it growing your own food or utilizing our resources more favorably.

Much has been written and shared about raised beds and composting. Rather than a detailed historical review, Heritage’s Curator of Hydrangeas Mal Condon will share the best practices that have evolved over his considerable experience – always with an emphasis on practicality, simplicity, economics, and – above all – best results.

Details-
When: Tuesday, September 15, 5:30-7:30 pm
Where: 67 Grove Street, Sandwich, MA

Happy Wednesday, friends!
Today is a busy one. We have a book signing and discussion with Eric Moskowitz on his book "The Hardest, Longest Race" today at 3 pm. (That's FREE with admission or membership.) Then at 5 pm, we have our popular Gearhead Garage featuring THREE vehicles, the 1912 Mercer Raceabout, 1912 Oldsmobile Autocrat Roadster, and the 1915 Stutz Bearcat. Tickets can be purchased at arrival or through the link in our newsletter.

And we've got more plants ready for sale.

And next week, the Cape Cod Bonsai Club will be having a show - here! Come see these intricate and lovely specimens beginning September 1.

What else, what else... oh! Did we mention that there is a Food Truck Fun Night next week?

TOMORROW!
Celebrate Motorsports Awareness Month this August by learning more about the fascinating world of cars. On August 26, you're invited to join award-winning journalist Eric Moskowitz in conversation with Jennifer Madden, Heritage Museums & Gardens’ Director of Collections & Exhibitions, to discuss his new book 'The Hardest, Longest Race: Henry Ford and the Cross-Country Contest That Changed America.' The book details the riveting story of the first coast-to-coast automobile race in U.S. history that Ford cheated at to win in 1909 to promote the new Model T. The event takes place from 3-4 pm and is free with admission or membership, no registration required. To learn more, visit https://hmg.social/The-Hardest-Longest-Race.

For those that want to continue learning, our Gearhead Garage that evening features three remarkable early American sports cars in Heritage’s collection: the 1912 Mercer Raceabout, 1912 Oldsmobile Autocrat Roadster, and 1915 Stutz Bearcat.
