What is "Milky Way season"? Milky Way season is the time of year when the Milky Way Galaxy is much more pronounced and visible in the night sky than other times of the year. Depending on your location, the best time of year to see the Milky Way is from February to June. April and May are peak visibility months. Cape Cod National Seashore is a favorite location for night sky photographers, as the limited light pollution yields excellent visibility for night sky images.

Image of the horizon at the Marconi Wireless Station in Wellfleet. The photographer used a 9-shot vertical panorama encompassing a full south to north view of the entire arch of the Milky Way. This type of shot is only possible early in the Milky Way “season” when the Milky Way reappears but rises low to the horizon in the very early morning hours (~4:00 AM).
