Save Marin's History has identified a strong list of enthusiastic candidates to comprise a new Board of Directors for the existing 501(c)3 charitable corporation. This diverse interim Board of Directors would be made up of museum professionals, experienced museum volunteers, donors and a countywide selection of Marin historians. Not only have we formulated an interim board to step in as the current board departs, we have engaged an attorney to advise us as we move forward, and have formulated a three phase action plan to triage, stabilize and create a thriving future for the Marin History Museum. Save Marin’s History has garnered widespread community support in just a few short weeks, and is confident that our goals of preserving the collection, creating a balance budget and retrieving any objects that may have been removed from the collection in recent months under the current administration’s plan. Additionally, we have also received an offer of funding from an anonymous private Marin donor that would be used to offset immediate overhead expenses and establish an on-going matching fund that will be held in a trust. This fund will be available only under the provision that the current board resign and a new board is created. Save Marin’s History is not considering any plan that would break up the collection created and fostered over 80 years by lovers and caretakers of Marin history. We believe that keeping the collection together as a whole is what would be best for the collection, the institution, researchers and for the County of Marin. We are excited, however, about many potential partnerships with the variety of historical organizations who have contacted us with offers of help.
