๐ŸŒฟ Summer Camp at MarinMOCA: Art in the Natural World ๐ŸŒฟ

Looking for a creative summer experience for your curious kid? Join us July 13โ€“17 for a week of outdoor exploration, art-making, and hands-on discovery at MarinMOCA in San Rafael!

Designed for ages 8โ€“11, this camp combines daily park visits with studio projects inspired by plants, rocks, textures, wildlife, and found objects. Students will create accordion books, wind chimes, shadow boxes, and more while learning drawing, sculpture, and assemblage techniques through both art history and natural history.

Led by professional artists and educators Lauren Volk and Sue Dedina.

๐˜ˆ๐˜ช๐˜บ-๐˜บ๐˜ฆ-๐˜ฌ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆโ€™ a Yurok greeting, opens into Azzuzโ€™s practice, rooted in making as a way to understand cultural and ecological inheritance. Large-scale fire paintings, steel forms, and a ceiling-spanning mural come together to reflect on what we carry forward and what we leave behind.

The evening includes a conversation between Azzuz and MarinMOCA Executive Director Jodi Roberts, offering deeper insight into the ideas shaping the work.

The relationship between cutter and subject is amplified through live micing of tools and accessories, mixed in real time to create an evolving soundscape that fills the space.

This Earth Day, celebrating young artists finding new ways to engage with the natural world โ€“ creating exciting opportunities for connection and environmental action through art.

๐˜–๐˜ณ๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ค ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด, created by MarinMOCAโ€™s Teen Council as part of Young Artists for the Planet, explores how photography can document and deepen our relationship to place. Inspired by Koki Tanakaโ€™s open-ended approach, students capture moments of interaction, collaboration, and care within Marinโ€™s landscapes.

Working alongside artists Julio Cesar Morales and Gina Osterloh, these young artists are building more than an exhibition. Theyโ€™re creating a space for community, creativity, and shared experience.
