The Calaboose Museum extends our sincerest gratitude to the SMXT Mud Mermaids Clay Club for their generous donation in support of our mission!

After touring the Calaboose, the Mud Mermaids were inspired to raise funds to help us collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret the history of African Americans in the City of San Marcos and Hays County.

The National Council of Teachers of English published the 2026 report for the annual African American Read In. I'm proud that for the 3rd year in a row, the Calaboose AAHM participated in this important educational event. I share the view of which Texan cities participated.
