One of our guests recently told us, “This might be the most fun I’ve ever had at an art museum.”

Honestly, same.

Come see Ben Steele’s “45th State of Mind” — where Utah, pop culture, art history, and a very good sense of humor come together.

On view now at the St. George Museum of Art.

A little piece of Zion history is heading home. 🏜️

Recently, the preservation and museum team from Zion National Park stopped by the St. George Museum of Art to pick up a collection of Howard Russell Butler paintings that have been under the care of the St. George Museum of Art since 2008, safely housed in our collections storage.

Do you remember seeing these paintings at the museum? 👀

Butler was commissioned by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1926 to paint landscapes showcasing the scenic marvels of the Colorado Plateau, including Zion National Park. His monumental landscapes helped introduce audiences across the country to the grandeur of this region. How cool is it that our museum has been able to help care for these works for nearly two decades?

We love being part of the ongoing stewardship of our region’s artistic and cultural heritage. 🤎

The process begins long before the studio.

Inspired by Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats, “The Purifying Heart” began with the landscape before taking shape layer by layer in the artist’s hands.

The second portal in Aziza’s “Fear Alchemy” this work explores letting go…of old beliefs, habits, and ways of seeing ourselves.

“Fear Alchemy” is on view now at the St. George Museum of Art.
