Black Bart’s most famous ship was the Royal Fortune, a name he used for several captured vessels during his career. One of the most notable was a large, heavily armed merchant ship he seized and refitted for piracy.
Under his command, this Royal Fortune was outfitted with around 40 to 50 cannons, making it a powerful force on the seas. It was large, fast for its size, and well-suited for both chasing down merchant ships and standing its ground in naval combat.

Did pirates use banks?
Not in the way we think of them today. Pirates didn’t have bank accounts or financial institutions, but they did manage their loot through agreed crew shares, trading stolen goods with merchants, and spending or exchanging valuables in pirate-friendly ports such as Nassau in the Bahamas, Port Royal in Jamaica, and Tortuga in the Caribbean.

Black Bart, also known as Bartholomew Roberts, was one of the most successful pirates of the early 1700s. In battle, he was typically armed with a cutlass for close combat and flintlock pistols for quick, decisive strikes during shipboard fights.
