Celebrating 25 years! We will be releasing events and specials happening throughout the closing season to celebrate our BIG Birthday! Historic Attractions is temporarily closed and will reopen on April 1st, 2026. Historic Attractions is not only home to famous cars, but also a wide array of movie memorabilia. Some of those pieces include Marilyn Monroe’s nightgown, a sweater worn by Hollywood lege

As work on the outside gets closer to completion, the work on the inside can start!

Everyday crews are working to get the new addition finished. Plumbing is getting worked in, electrical is getting started and walls are getting insulated. 💡🪠👷

📜 This Day in History – June 23, 1876 📜

On June 23, 1876, Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer and the 7th Cavalry began the final movements that would lead to one of the most famous battles in American history—the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Just days later, on June 25-26, Custer and his men would clash with a large alliance of Lakota Sioux, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors led by leaders including Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull.

Often remembered as "Custer's Last Stand," the battle became a defining moment of the American West and remains one of the most studied events in United States history.

At Historic Attractions Museum, visitors can explore artifacts and displays connected to both General Custer and Crazy Horse, offering a unique opportunity to learn about the individuals whose lives became forever linked through this historic conflict. These exhibits help tell the story from multiple perspectives and encourage visitors to explore the complex history of the American frontier.

The legacy of Crazy Horse continues to be honored today through the massive Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Still under construction, it is one of the largest mountain carvings ever attempted and serves as a tribute to Native American culture, heritage, and the enduring spirit of Crazy Horse.

History isn't just about remembering the past—it's about understanding the people, stories, and events that shaped our nation.

We are getting closer and closer every day!

Cement was poured for the new addition. Wayne is getting excited to fill it with historic fire engines, memorabilia, and more. This will be an additional 12,000 sq ft to journey through, making Historic Attractions a 98,000 sq ft museum!

Macktown Living History, located in Rockton, IL

Located in Rockton, IL, Macktown Living History Education Center brings the past to life by recreating the sights, sounds, and stories of early Illinois settlement.

Founded by pioneer Stephen Mack, Macktown was one of the area’s earliest settlements. Today, visitors can explore historic buildings including the Stephen Mack residence, Whitman’s Trading Post, and the reconstructed Stevens Shop — a place that also housed one of the earliest schools in Winnebago County.

But Macktown isn’t just about old buildings… It’s about the people who lived there. Through living history events, demonstrations, archaeology programs, and hands-on experiences, guests can learn what life was like for early settlers, tradespeople, and families who helped shape our region.

Step into the roaring 1920s for a night of suspense, laughter, and interactive fun at Historic Attractions Museum! You’re invited to attend the wedding of the year — a lavish gangster-style celebration — but don’t get too comfortable. This reception has secrets… and someone won’t be leaving alive.

Guests will become part of the action as they mingle with shady characters, witness shocking “events,” and work together to solve the mystery. Is it the jealous ex? The rival mob boss? Or maybe the bride has her own deadly secret? Only the sharpest minds will crack the case before the night is over.
