Today, in 1926, the famous Marilyn Monroe was born.

She was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson in Los Angeles, California. Her mother and grandparents were committed to mental institutions, and she grew up with different foster families. She married James Dougherty at 16. James was sent to the North Pacific during World War II. Norma Jeane was working in a factory when a photographer discovered the young, photogenic woman, which would kick-start her modeling and acting career.

In 1946, she divorced James, and soon after, she would sign a deal with 20th Century Fox. She dyed her brown hair to the iconic blonde and started going by Marilyn Monroe. She starred in several movies from 1947 to 1961. In June of 1962, she was dismissed from Fox, and around 2 months later, she was found dead in her home at 36 years old.

This week back in 1927, Henry Ford drove the 15 millionth Model T off the line, officially ending production on the car that completely changed how the world moves. It’s wild to think about how a single vehicle forced the government to start building modern roads and brought rural communities together.

We have a few incredible Model T examples from this exact era right here at Historic Attractions. Swing by the museum this week, check out the exhibits, and get an up-close look at the car that started it all.
