Laurent House by Frank Lloyd Wright Noted as one of the best examples of Wright's architecture and interior design. When the home was built, the lot was considered on the edge of town.

Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Rockford, IL; the only building designed by Wright for a person with a disability and one of only 10 hemicycle Usonian homes. The Kenneth and Phyllis Laurent House is a single-story, solar hemicycle Usonian designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1949. The residence is a rare mid-century example of a handicapped accessible home that was designed to be both functional and beautiful. Built of Chicago Common Brick and Red Tidewater Cypress, the house hugs the property and blends flawlessly with its natural landscape. The City of Rockford has since grown to surround the neighborhood, yet the area still retains its rural feel with large wooded lots and curvilinear roads. The home is a fine example of Wright’s Usonian architecture as exemplified by its smaller footprint, slab construction, carport, and outdoor connectivity.

✨ A Record-Breaking Silent Auction—and an Unforgettable Evening!

Our annual fundraiser, “Bourbon, Brisket & Blues,” had an incredible year! The silent auction not only set a new record for funds raised, but also featured an amazing array of one-of-a-kind experiences, art, and special opportunities.

One very lucky winner was our own board member Andy Wanek, who won an extraordinary evening: dinner by at the Laurent House with Grammy-winning musician Melissa Etheridge and her wife, actress, writer, and producer Linda Wallem! 🎶🥂

Set in the one-of-a-kind surroundings of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Laurent House, it was truly a memorable evening—and a wonderful time was had by all!

Step into the world of Frank Lloyd Wright and experience the remarkable story of Mamah Borthwick, the woman who shared a profound and complicated love with one of America’s most celebrated architects.

On Saturday, October 17, the Laurent House and Pettit Chapel invite you to the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Pettit Chapel in the Belvidere Cemetery for a special performance by acclaimed actress Ellie Carlson, who portrays Mamah Borthwick as a spirit returning at the moment of her death in 1914.

Through Carlson’s captivating performance, Mamah tells her own story—of her life, her relationship with Wright, the creation of Taliesin, and the extraordinary circumstances surrounding her final days.

Presented within the intimate setting of a Wright-designed chapel, this is more than a performance. It is an opportunity to encounter one of the most fascinating and tragic chapters in Frank Lloyd Wright’s life through the voice of the woman who lived it.

We had some very special guests at the Laurent House this week! 🎶✨

The talented band and road crew behind stopped by for a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Laurent House, preceded by lunch on our terrace. What a treat to welcome them to Rockford!

The band was in town for Melissa Etheridge’s performance at Rockford’s historic Coronado Theatre on Tuesday—and we were thrilled to give them a taste of one of Rockford’s own architectural treasures while they were here.

We love sharing the Laurent House with visitors from near and far!

We had a surprise guest for last night's fundraiser! We were lucky enough to have a visit by , the famous drummer for Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band. Max has been a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture since first seeing the Guggenheim Museum as a young boy. He has visited more than 140 FLW homes and yesterday visited the Laurent House and sat in with the band for a song. It was an honor to spend time with him. Thank you, Max, for visiting the Laurent House!
