Mercer Gallery Monroe Community College-Mercer Gallery Rochester New York 14623 USA

The Mercer Gallery's schedule of exhibitions and cultural events began in November of 1986. The purpose was to meet an instructional need for a department gallery which would present current, challenging work, not readily available in the Rochester another gallery exhibitarea in a context exemplifying excellent curatorial and gallery management practices. We envisioned a gallery which would present art and artists, which could be integrated with the work of our curriculum to serve as an instructional model of contemporary art for our students.

Mission: The mission of the Mercer Gallery is to provide aesthetically challenging, original, contemporary artwork which embodies current developments in the visual arts. The gallery and the exhibition schedule is integrated with our curriculum objectives and accessible to the students, faculty, staff and alumni of Monroe Community College and the greater Rochester community. Since it's founding, the gallery has been dedicated to presenting exhibitions that present work not readily exhibited in the upstate New York area. This policy has resulted in the gallery being cited as having "the most original exhibitions of any gallery in upstate New York" The gallery was cited by dissonant artists of the Red Rider Group of Dresden in their negotiations with the then East German Democratic Republic as "a significant gallery having a major cultural impact in upper New York State"

Rochester, NY August, 2017
The Mercer Gallery at Monroe Community College announces the new exhibition, “Points of Departure: Meditations on Mapping” to be held at the Brighton campus location and six satellite venues throughout the Rochester area during the fall of 2017.

MCC Fine Arts professor Karen Sardisco and Rochester artist Colleen Buzzard, curators of the exhibit write,

“This exhibit aims to highlight the ways that various disciplines approach the concept of “mapping” as a mode of inquiry and communication. The intent is to show that works created by artists, map-makers, scientists, musicians and so many others, are often the beginnings of conversation rather than its end points.

Along with the anchor exhibit at the Mercer Gallery at MCC, six different venues will extend the scope of the show across the Rochester area, linking the various institutions and threading connections throughout.”

The opening reception for the Mercer exhibit is September 14th from 5-7pm. Building 12, Reception parking in Parking Lot F.

Mercer Gallery Hours: Monday-Thursday 11-7, Friday 11-4
Please adhere to parking restrictions during other hours of operation. Visitor parking is available in Parking Lot V in the front of campus or at metered parking throughout campus.
