ROC Archive The regional work includes the social interactions found across New York State, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The archive focuses on newsreels, home movies, audio recordings, video recordings and all other audiovisual tools and media, still or moving image, organized to capture the region’s cultural development overtime. ROC Archive is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit regional audiovisual education archive dedicated to collecting, preserving and providing access to an artistic and historical record across the r

egion’s diverse rural, suburban and urban socioeconomic cultures and heritages. We value the significant stories of the individuals, families and groups captured on media by safeguarding these artifacts in perpetuity for family, community and scholarly use.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who believed in the Mission of ROC Archive; Preserving Humanity in still and moving image. ROC Archive (the recognized entity) has been officially closed for sometime now and this page will be deleted in February. I would like to extend the opportunity for all to know what the future holds for the archive by simply searching glentricity, my Alter ego name given to me by Mastering Recording Engineer Tod Levine at Magnetic North 30 years ago or my first given name Glenn Galbraith on your preferred search engine. (I am only on Facebook and YouTube.)
Now, Truth is, our creative team lacked an accountant and as founder I take responsibility for the lack in due diligence in securing someone to help in this process. Again, I am eternally grateful for those that understood and supported the value of a regional audio visual archive and it is my hope that the entity will rise again. With that, your memories continue to be safeguarded.

After Ruth Katcher’s mother died, she was cleaning out the cellar and found a dusty 8mm reel of film, labeled Passover Feast 1932. There was her great-grandfather, a Ukrainian immigrant who had resettled in Philadelphia leading the Seder at the head of a long table.

“To me,” writes Ruth, “this brief film underscores a vital center of Judaism, making the connection between past and present, of pulling up stakes and fleeing from oppression into the unknown.”

This Day in History: It was on February 1, 1900 when Rochester’s Eastman Kodak introduced the Kodak Brownie camera, bringing the ability of capturing a snapshot to the masses. Selling for $1, the demand exceeded expectations as George Eastman’s company produced 150,000 of these in that first year. Production of the Brownie lasted from 1900-1986 before the landscape of photography would drastically change. The Brownie was designed and manufactured for George Eastman by his trusted colleague Frank A. Brownell. The name Brownie was selected based on characters from a popular children’s book at the time—the camera was heavily marketed toward kids initially. The concept of social media, the sharing of photographs, truly began 123 years ago today here in Western New York. Featured here is an image I captured at the George Eastman Museum, a collection of vintage items, as well the box the Kodak Brownie was sold in.
